Downtown Arlington lights up the night on Thursday, July 3, 2025, with Light Up Arlington, a dazzling kickoff to the Fourth of July weekend. This FREE, family-friendly event runs from 6 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.
This year's celebration includes some of the top musical acts in the Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington region, vendors, food trucks and plenty of kid-friendly fun. The fireworks display, which lasts about 20 minutes, is scheduled to start at 9:50 p.m.
Free activities at the George W. Hawkes Downtown Library include rock painting and a children's fireworks painting with cotton swabs craft on the first floor as well as a 4th of July Scavenger Hunt in the Children's area.

The 60th annual Arlington Independence Day Parade starts at 9 a.m. Friday in Downtown. This year's theme is "Shining Bright Since 1965." The parade, which is organized by volunteers, will be broadcast on the City of Arlington's cable channel.

Arlington Fire Chief Bret Stidham recently presented the department's Fiscal Year 2024 annual report to the City Council, highlighting technology upgrades, emergency preparedness planning, training, and other priorities designed to keep the 99-square-mile city safe.
Changes this past year include the initial work to transition from three-person staffing to four-person staffing, implementing a new mobile app that allows firefighters to see calls as they come in, and establishing a new indoor site to test the physical fitness of hundreds of firefighter candidates looking to join the City.

Leading up to the holiday, the City of Arlington will once again activate its fireworks reporting webpage, www.arlingtontx.gov/reportfireworks, that will allow residents to provide information about fireworks activity to Arlington’s 9-1-1 Dispatch Center while keeping phone lines open for emergencies. |
Applications are now open for the fall 2025 session of Arlington Water Utilities University, hosted by the City of Arlington’s award-winning water department, Arlington Water Utilities. Arlington residents can apply online through Friday, Aug. 8, 2025. Selected participants will be contacted by Friday, Aug. 15.

Independence Day City Service Schedule
Several City of Arlington offices will be closed in observance of the Independence Day holiday. Residential and commercial garbage and recycling collection will not occur on Friday, July 4. Residents whose regularly scheduled garbage and recycling collection day falls on July 4 will have their curbside collection shifted by one day to Saturday, July 5 instead.
