Three Things to Know in Arlington: June 9-15, 2025

The City of Arlington’s CodeRED community notification system, launched in 2021, is designed to provide residents important information about city service interruptions or public emergencies through phone calls, emails and/or text messages. The City can activate the notification system for issues such as temporary boil water notices, garbage and recycling service updates, natural gas leaks, or other incidents with broad public impact. The City does not use CodeRED for severe weather alerts, but can use the system to provide information to residents about storm cleanup or impacts to city services.

Every kennel is full this week at Arlington Animal Services, which is offering a $5 pet adoption special on all cats and dogs through Saturday, June 14, 2025. 

Overflowing with adoptable pets, the shelter is operating at a critical 130% capacity. This overcrowding puts immense strain on shelter resources, staff, and most importantly, the well-being of the animals in its care.

Cat adoption fees are typically $90 and dog adoption fees are $100. All adoption fees, even for the $5 pet adoption special, include pet vaccinations, spaying or neutering, a microchip, a city license for Arlington residents, and heartworm testing for dogs or FIV/FELV testing for cats.
