Learn About City's $10 Million Shadow Drive Sanitary Sewer Main Replacement Project in North Arlington

Arlington Water Utilities will host a public meeting about the City of Arlington’s Shadow Drive Sanitary Sewer Main Replacement Project from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 15, on the first floor of the George W. Hawkes Downtown Library, 100 S. Center St. Information will be available at the meeting about the project and its potential environmental impacts.

The sanitary sewer main replacement project is planned for the area near West Shadow Drive and Northeast Green Oaks Boulevard. To protect the City’s waterways, about 2,800 linear feet of the existing 21-inch sanitary sewer main along east bluff of the West Fork Trinity River will be abandoned. The project is necessary because significant erosion around the existing sanitary sewer main caused it to be in danger of collapsing.

Wednesday is Deadline to Apply for a City of Arlington Board or Commission

The City of Arlington is accepting applications for interested residents who would like to serve on a citizen board or commission.

Members of boards and commissions assist the Mayor and City Council by making recommendations on general policy matters impacting the city. Most boards and commissions function in advisory capacities and some have final decision-making authority.

Members are appointed by the Mayor and City Council to serve a two-year term and most terms run July 1 through June 30. These are volunteer positions.

Arlington Animal Services Offers Tips to Residents Who Find Kittens

Do you know what to do if you find a baby kitten? Many people would instantly want to pick it up and cuddle it and then wonder what to do next. Most times if you find a young or un-weaned kitten the momma cat is close by. Alley Cat Allies experts say the best thing you can do is Leave Them Be. Nothing truly replaces the care a kitten’s mom can provide.

Arlington Animal Services has published a web page on kitten education with information and links to a variety of resources on what to do if you think a kitten truly is abandoned. If orphaned, a young kitten’s life is dependent on receiving good care, and fast.

Like many shelters, Arlington Animal Services does not have a neonatal kitten program. A healthy kitten's best chance of survival is with its mother.
