City of Arlington's Outdoor Warning Siren System is for More Than Tornado Warnings

The National Weather Service Fort Worth Office says this will be a very important week to be weather aware, with daily chances for strong to severe storms continuing into Saturday.

The City of Arlington coordinates with the National Weather Service and other official sources to determine when the active the City's Outdoor Warning Siren System to alert the public, especially individuals who are outside, about a potential or imminent threat. Here are the conditions where the City of Arlington could activate the sirens:

Tornado Warning issued by the National Weather Service
Trained storm spotter report of a tornado
Hail 1.5” or larger
Winds of 70 mph or higher
Other outdoor emergencies

Arlington, which is 99 square miles, activates all of its 50-plus sirens at once. Only a portion of the city may be at risk of winds of 70 mph or higher, hail 1.5 inches or larger, a tornado or other outdoor threat - not the entire city. If you hear the sirens, please move indoors and seek additional information from a trusted news source about what may be happening in your area. Free 2025 Veritex Bank Championship Tickets for Available Arlington Residents

Tickets are now on sale for the 2025 Veritex Bank Championship at Texas Rangers Golf Club in Arlington. The tournament will be held April 24-27.

Arlington residents, all active-duty military, reservists, veterans, and first responders can receive free admission to the tournament rounds. Arlington residents can visit one of seven locations and show their proof of residency to get a one-use promo code to redeem their tickets.

Fans can look forward to themed days throughout tournament week, adding even more excitement to the experience. Folds of Honor Friday invites fans and players to show their support for military members and families by wearing red, white, and blue. On Sunday’s Community Day, families can enjoy an afternoon of fun with balloon art, face painting, and more from noon to 3 p.m.

Downtown Arlington Crowds at Rotary Dream Park

Farmers Market, Shakespeare Live, Art Exhibition and More Fun Events in Downtown This Weekend

The South Street Art Festival returns this Friday through Sunday in the 300 to 600 block of East South Street. See and buy from local, regional and national artists offering one-of-a-kind art. The free festival runs from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.

Shakespeare Live will have four free performances of As You Like It from Thursday to Saturday at Levitt Pavilion Arlington, 100 W. Abram St. Shows are scheduled for Thursday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m., with two performances on Friday, one at 11 a.m. and another one at 7:30 p.m. All performances will be free and open to the public

Create Wellspring's first art exhibition, "Come as You Are,"opens Saturday at 201 W. Main St. The opening reception is in the gallery from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and the exhibition runs through May 23.

The weekly Downtown Farmers Market returns this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the parking lot south of Mellow Mushroom. Stop by for fresh produce, local vendors and unique artisans. A list of vendors is posted each week on the Downtown Arlington website. Don't miss the nearby Rotary Dream Park, which features two large public art scuptures, and the Downtown Doggie Depot.
