The Arlington City Council took its first look Aug. 6 at the proposed $722 million Fiscal Year 2025 operating budget, which includes cost-saving measures to taxpayers while also fulfilling voter-approved amenities and shifting more funding toward public safety, street maintenance and community cleanliness.
Proposals for the upcoming fiscal year, which begins Oct. 1, includes a recommendation for a one-cent property tax rate adjustment and increases for residents’ water rate, the garbage collection rate and stormwater fee. The City Council will vote on the budget in September after a series of public meetings, including town halls scheduled for Aug. 14 and Aug. 26.

The City of Arlington is pleased to announce another Neighborhood Matching Grant call for projects. Through this year’s program, $150,000 is available to fund improvement projects that will beautify and enhance the public spaces and strengthen neighborhoods throughout The American Dream City. Applications for this grant program are due by Friday, Nov. 1, 2024.

Arlington Animal Services is once again joining NBCUniversal Local’s “Clear The Shelters” campaign and will waive all pet adoption fees from Aug. 10-17, 2024, to help deserving cats and dogs find loving homes.
Adoption fees are typically $100 for dogs and $90 for cats. Adoptions include spaying/neutering, city licenses, microchipping, core vaccines, rabies vaccine, and Heartworm/FeLV/FIV testing services.
