The City of Arlington also partners with Tarrant County Public Health to educate the public on simple measures they should take to prevent potentially dangerous mosquito bites.
- DEET is an ingredient to look for in your insect repellent. Follow label instructions, and always wear repellent when outdoors.
- Dress in long sleeves and pants when you're outside. For extra protection, you may want to spray thin clothing with repellent.
- Drain standing water in your yard and neighborhood where mosquitoes can breed. This includes old tires, flowerpots, clogged rain gutters, etc. Mosquitoes may develop in any water stagnant for more than three or four days. For shallow standing water that cannot be eliminated, check regularly for the presence of mosquito larvae and if seen, apply a biological larvicide often referred to as "mosquito dunks," available at local hardware stores.

The City of Arlington has been working with its partners at the Texas Rangers and Major League Baseball for more than a year to develop a robust safety and traffic management plan for the 2024 MLB All-Star Week. Here are some parking, travel and safety recommendations for fans attending All-Star Week events.
The City of Arlington’s Office of Strategic Initiatives is hosting a contest for one lucky neighborhood to win the Block Party Trailer for its National Night Out party this fall. Those who are interested in participating are asked to fill out an online Neighborhood Engagement Survey by Sept. 8. One survey equals one entry, with no maximum limit set on how many times a neighborhood can enter.

Thursday, July 4 is Independence Day. Residential and commercial garbage and recycling collection will not occur on July 4. This is the first major holiday where trash and recycling collection will be impacted. Here’s what to do.
Residents whose regularly scheduled garbage and recycling collection day falls on July 4 or July 5 will have their curbside collection shifted by one day because of the holiday. That means residents who normally set out their bins curbside for collection on Thursdays will set them out for collection on Friday, July 5 instead. Residents whose garbage and recycling collection day is on Fridays will set their bins out for collection on Saturday, July 6.
- Monday collection is unchanged
- Tuesday collection is unchanged
- Wednesday collection is unchanged
- Thursday collection shifts to Friday
- Friday collection shifts to Saturday
If you have any questions, please reach out to trashpickup@arlingtontx.gov.
