The Arlington City Council has allocated an additional $4 million in street maintenance sales tax revenue for projects this summer that will improve city streets. These improvements will provide smooth surfaces and prolong the street infrastructure.
Before the additional funds were approved April 23, the City’s Public Works Department budgeted $24.7 million for street maintenance improvements projects in Fiscal Year 2024, which ends Sept. 30. The additional funds, which were unspent from the previous fiscal year, are expected to go toward the annual Street Reclamation Program and the Asphalt Mill & Overlay Program.

Downtown Arlington Doggie Depot, Downtown Arlington’s first dog park, is officially under construction. A groundbreaking ceremony was held May 15, 2024, for the park, which is expected to open in September at the corner of North Mesquite Street and East Main Street.
“The Arlington Tomorrow Foundation is delighted to help support The Doggie Depot. This gated space, near Arlington’s new Dream Park, will be a safe and attractive spot for residents and visitors to play with their pets while they are out enjoying the many restaurants, shops and cultural events happening throughout our vibrant Downtown,” said Mayor Jim Ross, who is also the Arlington Tomorrow Foundation board chair.
This project was proudly underwritten in part by the Arlington Tomorrow Foundation. The initial community engagement, technical assistance and design was provided through the Project for Public Spaces Community Placemaking Grant funded by GM, which also provided an additional $75,000 in implementation funds.
Participants in the derby must be 18 or older. The derby will be held on Randol Mill Park’s blue, yellow and green fields. The red field will feature a whiffle ball game and yard games for families. The event will also feature food trucks and mascots, Captain from the Rangers, Lighting from the Wings, and Blaze from The University of Texas at Arlington, to interact with participants.
