As May arrives, so too does a new slate of can’t-miss events across Oklahoma. Celebrate our nation’s armed forces at one of many Memorial Day events, get tickets to experience the state’s signature country music festival or take part in classic carnival fun. Travelers can also dig into Oklahoma flavors like the iconic onion burger or homegrown strawberries at a food festival.  Stillwater / May 1-3
Enjoy three days of country music at the Tumbleweed Calf Fry festival in Stillwater. Since 1991, this iconic music festival has annually attracted top talent from the Red Dirt country genre to perform on various stages at the famous Tumbleweed Dance Hall. This year’s festival is headlined by Treaty Oak Revival, Wyatt Flores and Ian Munsick, with many more performances planned throughout the three days.

 Guymon / May 2-4
Giddy up and head to the "bronc capital of the world" for the Pioneer Days Celebration & PRCA Rodeo in Guymon. This premier Panhandle event draws in competitors and spectators from around the region for saddle bronc riding, steer roping, bull riding, team roping and more. Throughout the weekend, the town will also celebrate Pioneer Days, which honors the pioneer spirit of Guymon’s earliest occupants with a parade, period-themed craft vendors, a 5K and much more.

 El Reno / May 3
Savor one of the most well-known flavors of Oklahoma at the El Reno Fried Onion Burger Festival. This event highlights the Oklahoma onion burger, a state staple that originated in El Reno in the 1920s. Dig into burger offerings from the assembled grill masters, including the world’s largest onion burger, which weighs a staggering 850 pounds.

 Prague / May 3
Celebrate Czech heritage and delicacies at the Prague Kolache Festival this May. This popular annual event showcases Czech culture, including polka music, dancing and all the sweet, fruit-filled pastries you can eat. The festival also features traditional Czech costumes, a parade, a carnival and live entertainment.

 McAlester / May 9-10
Visit the famous McAlester Italian Festival for all the freshly prepared Italian fare you can imagine. Dating back to 1971, the Italian Festival is one of the state’s most beloved cultural celebrations. Live entertainment, craft booths and even a spaghetti-eating contest round out this decades-old tradition.

 Tulsa / May 9-11
The Tulsa International Mayfest transforms the city into an outdoor tribute to the performing and visual arts during this annual festival. Gather the whole family for live concerts, hands-on art projects, fair food, juried art shows and more.

 Stilwell / May 10
The Stilwell Strawberry Festival dates back to the 1940s and attracts more than 30,000 visitors each year. The festival is jam-packed with events, including live entertainment, a 5K, a carnival, the Strawberry Festival Rodeo, a car show and a massive parade. Dig into all the strawberry-themed fun while shopping products from area vendors, and find out why Stilwell is known as the Strawberry Capital of the World.

 Bixby / May 15-17
Celebrate two Oklahoma staples at the Bixby BBQ ’n Blues Festival. During this three-day festival, guests can sample mouthwatering entries from more than 80 barbecue teams from Oklahoma and the surrounding areas as they compete for top prizes. While you eat, enjoy a series of live blues performances by talented local artists and bands.

 Oklahoma City / May 24-25
Round up your little cowboys and cowgirls for two days of Western entertainment at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum’s Chuck Wagon Festival. During the event, guests of all ages can enjoy artisan demonstrations, live music and chuck wagon fare. There will also be plenty of hands-on activities, classic cowboy and Indigenous foods and can’t-miss photo ops.

 Durant / May 29-31
Get into some family-friendly fun at the Magnolia Festival of Oklahoma in Durant. This annual event opens with a massive carnival full of rides and games. Over the next few days, the festival will feature a tractor parade, a 5K and fun run and authentic performances by Choctaw dance troupes. The weekend kicks off with an amazing fireworks display that guests won’t want to miss.
