SAFE PLACES SHELTER PROGRAM WILL SAVE LIVES LET’S GET BELLEUVE ON THE LIST!
Now, any organization that opens its doors to the public is not liable for loss, damages, injury, or death that results from providing shelter from severe weather thanks to the passage of the bill in April of 2023.
If your organization wants to participate in this program, please contact me at sheri.weiner@nashville.gov. We’ve launched a challenge to all the councilmembers to bring online at least one Safe Place per district and will officially launch the Davidson County Safe Places on the anniversary of the March 3 tornado.
Let’s save lives.

2024 BUDGET FUNDING REQUESTS
A Quick Primer (I promise it’s painless)
Metro funds several budgets: The Operating Budget, Capital Spending Plan and today we’re talking about the Capital Improvements Budget (CIB) which is, essentially, a wish list of improvement projects across the county. Items that are considered appropriate for the CIB are those that have a lifetime longer than 10 years and cost more than $50,000. No item on the CIB can be undertaken until/unless it has been moved to the Capital Spending Plan by the Administration and approved by the Metro Council. The councilmembers have the opportunity to provide their own wish lists to be considered for inclusion on the CIB. The list is collected and turned over to the Planning Department to score based on several criteria for inclusion representing how well it aligns with Nashville Next. About the CIB
Here's what I put in this year’s CIB requests for District 22:
- Metro Animal Care & Control – dedicated funding, new larger facility equipped to offer spay/neuter programming and more
- Prioritizing sidewalk placement within one mile of any bus stop or school bus pick up location.
- Make the following multi-modal safe
- Hwy 70 S from I40 to Lawson High School
- Hicks Rd.
- Sawyer Brown Rd from Cross Timbers to Charlotte Pike
- Coley Davis Rd
- Old Harding From Hwy 70S to Learning Lane
- Traffic Calming and Control
- Hwy 70S corridor
- Think Hwy 70S and Old Harding
- Think Hwy 70S and Belle Forest Cl
- Think Hwy 70 S and Harpeth Valley Rd
- Old Hickory Blvd and Belle Forest Cl
- Beautification at Colt Triangle (Sawyer Brown, Colt & Hicks Rd)
- There are a couple of others that I’ll talk about in a future newsletter once a few other pieces of the puzzle are in place.
WHAT’S UP MY SLEEVE?
Tired of driving to Williamson County or across Davidson County for birthday parties because there is a big gap out here for that? Well, that’s on my list of things to do... to bring family-focused/youth-focused businesses here.
What would you like to see the old Bellevue fire hall and library become? Go to 648 Colice Jeanne Rd Multipurpose Planning I’ll be holding public meetings in the coming months.
Safety and Security Initiatives – there are a list of things that will support walkability, safe passage, noise reduction, wellness programming and support for Metro Animal Care and Control and our area pets and families. Watch for the January launch of the Metro Pet Working Group – a collaboration of folks rallying around MACC and our rescue community to establish meaningful improvements operationally, financially and legislatively. I’ll have a lot more to say about this as we move forward.
Metro Charter – I’m the chair of the Charter Revision Committee this year and we’ll be looking at where corrections need to be presented to you to be voted on in November.
