Tornado Damage Assessments Completed

2023 Tornado

An EF-2 tornado left a wide trail of destruction across parts of Davidson County on December 9. Working with the Office of Emergency Management, inspectors from our Building Division were in the field less than 24 hours after the storm conducting structural damage assessments.

Inspectors assessed a total of 931 properties where damage ranged from minor cosmetic damage to to complete structural losses.

Permit Fees Waived for Tornado Damaged Properties

On December 19, the Metro Council approved a resolution authorizing the Codes Director to waive all building and trades permit fees for work on structures damaged in the December 9 tornadoes. We appreciate Councilmember Erin Evans and the many cosponsors for taking this step to assist homeowners and business owners in rebuilding from the storm.

Codes Hosts New Metro Council Class

Council Training

Inspector Tim Rowland on WPLN

WPLN Tim Rowland

WPLN's daily program This is Nashville hosted a panel of construction experts that included Metro Codes Department Building Inspector Tim Rowland.

The discussion centered around the quality and selection of building materials utilized in today's construction and how they compare with materials we see in many of Nashville's historic structures.

Joined by architect Martin Shofner, and carpenter JP Harris, Tim shared how advancements in technology and materials have increased the efficiency of today's buildings.

Annual Chili Cookoff Fundraiser

Each year Metro Codes hosts a chilli cook-off to raise funds for the Metro Makes a Difference Campaign. The campaign coordinates and serves Metro employees annual contributions to the community.

After much deliberation by our judges, the votes were counted and Inspector Antwoine Jobe was awarded the coveted pepper trophy!

Thanks to our entrants and all who came out to raise funds for a great cause. Stay tuned for more fundraising opportunities in 2024!
