Health Dept Order #8 Regarding Mandatory Masks

Effective yesterday, the Health Dept executed Order #8 mandating the wearing of masks in public.  This is an effort to stem the tide of the COVID-19 virus without going to the difficult measures of closing our businesses.  Nashville remains in Phase 3 of our reopening and will likely remain in Phase 3 for at least another 3-4 weeks.

Some highlights of Order #8:

  • Face coverings are defined in the order as cloth face covering, mask, or other device to cover the nose and mouth of a person.  Face shields do not meet this standard.  Medical grade masks are not required.  Coverings can be fashioned from scarves, bandanas, or other suitable fabrics.
  • Masks are to be worn in public with some exemptions which include:
    • Children under 12
    • Those with medical exemptions
    • Inside a motor vehicle unless public transportation
    • Within educational facilities
    • Working alone in non public office space
    • Eating or drinking in a restaurant or other establishment
    • While outdoors in public space maintaining social distance requirements.
    • In place of worship
    • Inside State or Federal Buildings
  • Wearing masks is not to be considered in any way as a substitute for social distance requirements.  It is important for us to do our part to be responsible when out in public in order to keep this virus from spreading.  The MNPD is responsible for enforcing and they will be educating and warning those in violation of this order until further notice at which time they will begin issuing citations for violations.

Home Business Occupation Bill, BL2020-48

On 6/30/2020 at 4pm, there will be a virtual meeting among Council members at a Special Called Meeting of the Planning and Zoning Committee to discuss the details of this bill and all of the amendments being offered.  That meeting will be archived and made available to the public if you are unable to tune in on Metro Nashville Network.  Just go to Nashville, gov and link to the Planning and Zoning committee meetings to find it.

Anyone with questions or comments on this bill, feel free to email them to me.  Third reading on this bill is scheduled to be heard on July 7, 2020.

Crestmoor/Glen Echo Intersection Realignment

I know many of you have been frustrated at the pace of the intersection realignment where Crestmoor and Glen Echo meet Hillsboro Pike.  There have been many issues to work through with adjacent property owners.  I am pleased to tell you now that those issues are in their final stages.   CVS has reached agreements with all adjacent property owners and they are now in the process of obtaining the necessary permits to begin their construction process, which will start with the demolition of the old Krystal building.  We are in the process of filing the ordinance to abandon the current alley which will be moved to a location on the west side of the property.

My expectation is that you will begin seeing activity on that location within the next several weeks as they work through the permitting process and alley abandonment.  Once they start construction, I have been informed by their engineers that process will likely take approximately 6 months.  Once complete, they will transfer their operation to the new facility and the city will then begin the realignment of the existing intersection.

I'll do my best to keep you updated on the phases as they unfold.

I-440 Project Completed

It's hard to believe, but the project to rebuild I-440 will officially be complete tomorrow, July 1, 2020 which is ahead of the predicted schedule.  I have been extremely pleased at how efficiently that project was executed.  As a resident of an adjacent street, I was expecting a much different impact on our community than what I observed.  I believe that is a credit to not only TDOT and their contractor, but to our community and the way you all adjusted and made this inconvenience work for us all.  Thanks for your patience.  Anyone with remaining questions moving forward about the project can direct those questions to Kathryn.schulte@tn.gov
