QLess Changes Effective July 9, 2018

In an effort to improve the reliability and performance of the QLess waiting app for customers, the Metro Codes Department is implementing a change in protocol for system users.

Metro Codes staff will sign into the queue those customers waiting to be served when the doors open at 7:30 a.m.

Once those in line have been signed up into the system, the queue will open at 8:00 a.m. for customers who are not physically present at the Development Services Center.

These changes are being implemented in an effort to improve reliability and predictability of the system. Too many individuals were signing into the system when it opened and not using the slots, burdening customers who actually need to be seen that day.

Director Bill Herbert is committed to reviewing processes and procedures within Metro Codes to further improve our ability to serve customers in a timely and efficient manner.

22nd Annual Metro Codes Charity Golf Tournament

Each year for the past 21 years, the Metro Codes Department with the help of a lot of friends and supporters has hosted a charity golf tournament to benefit local charities. We have been especially focused on helping area kids with disabilities and we have been blessed to succeed and grow this tournament each year.

The date of the 22nd Annual, Metro Codes Charity Golf Tournament has been set for Saturday, September 29th. Once again, the tournament will be played at the Ted Rhodes Golf Course in Nashville. All tournament proceeds are donated through the Metro Employees Consolidated Charities Campaign (MECCC) to equally benefit the Easter Seals Summer Camp programs and the Harris-Hillman School. Last year, with the help of 128 players and more than 150 sponsors, the Metro Codes Department raised $68,000 for these local charities to support Nashville-area kids with disabilities.

Building Permits - By the Numbers

Led by new commercial construction, Nashville saw a slight increase in the value of permits for the fiscal year 2017-18 ending on June 30th compared to FY2017.

Codes issued 11,465 permits valued at $3.595 billion in FY18, compared to 12,315 permits valued at $3.485 in FY17. New residential construction dropped fiscal year over year from 4,841 permits to 3,992. The value of new commercial construction nearly doubled, from $571 million to $1.037 billion.

Planning’s Recommendations to the BZA

In an effort to better inform the public, Metro Codes will be posting the recommendations from the Planning Department to the Board of Zoning Appeals for requests for variances from the sidewalk ordinance. In the cases where the property owner agrees with the Planning Department’s recommendations, those cases are eligible for the consent agenda of the docket, so long as no members of the public object. Documents are available on the BZA website.
