Please join me to on Tuesday, February 27th to learn about the 6719 Charlotte Pike SP (Specific Plan 2017SP-098-001).
Bill BL2018-1090, a request to rezone from RS40 to SP-R zoning for property located at 6719 Charlotte Pike, approximately 175 feet
west of Brook Hollow Road, (1.1 acres), to permit 11 multi-family units, was approved with conditions, disapproved without by Planning Commission (8-0) on 1/11/2018 and a public hearing at Metro Council is scheduled on March 6th.
I have conducted several community meetings since last November. The developer and the neighbors are in general agreement of the proposed plan with some changes. Please contact me with any concerns or questions so I can be sure to incorporate additional specific conditions to the bill prior to the third reading on March 20th.

Previously,
MNPS (Metro Nashville Public Schools) and School Board Member Amy
Frogge hosted a community meeting on January 25th at the Westmeade
Elementary School regarding the Westmeade Elementary School Plan.
I conducted a second community meeting on February 10th; we
had a great discussion about the proposed plan.
The majority of the attendees support Option 1, building a new
elementary school on the Hillwood Campus.
However, Option 1 presents some problems; without strong community
support, MNPS will not consider major changes that require the rezoning of the
school district and changing the feeder patterns. Please make sure you complete the survey.
You can see their presentation at this link.
I have inserted the pictures below to make it easy for you to compare the different
locations.
My thoughts on each options can be found at this link.
Option 1 - Hillwood
Option 2 - Current site
Option 3 - Bellevue
Short-Term
Rental Issue in State Senate
As expected, the TN State Senate is moving forward with an amended
bill, SB 1086, that will pre-empt
individual cities’ STRP regulations, including BL2017-608 which was recently
passed by Metro Council. As a co-sponsor of 608, I believe 608 will
fairly and responsibly regulate short-term rentals in order to maintain our
neighborhood quality-of-life. Council
members invested over two years in countless meetings and conversations to
learn all perspectives of STRPs.
If SB 1086 is approved, it will allow non-owner occupied short-term
rental businesses to operate in every zoning district without exception. It will take away your property rights to
live in a strictly residential neighborhood without a business operating next
door.
If you wish to weigh in on this important issue, you may telephone
or write State Senators. There is no one
e-mail address that will reach every State Senator; therefore, individual
telephone calls or e-mails would be necessary.
Here is the link showing all Tennessee State Senators with their e-mail
addresses and telephone numbers (just click on their name) - http://www.capitol.tn.gov/senate/members/.
District 23 is represented by both Senator Steve Dickerson and
Senator Jeff Yarbro. The amended SB1086
is currently awaiting a vote in the Senate Commerce and Labor Committee; this
committee should be your first focus. Members
include Senators Jack Johnson (R), Franklin; Mark Green (R), Clarksville; Kerry
Roberts (R), Springfield; Delores Gresham (R), Somerville; bill Ketron (R),
Murfreesboro; Frank Niceley (R), Strawberry Plains; Reginald Tate (D), Memphis;
Bo Watson (R), Chattanooga; and Ken Yager (R), Kingston.
As always, I welcome your input. Please feel free to call me or e-mail me with any suggestions or questions. |
