THC Certificate of Merit awards ceremony
On June 7, the Tennessee Historical Commission hosted its annual Certificate of Merit award celebration. Among those honored were Tennessee State University and the Metro Historical Commission for their work on the Nashville Conference on African American History and Culture, which has celebrated the contributions of African Americans to Nashville and Tennessee for over 35 years. Many of our participants have never missed a conference, and we look forward to many more years of seeing you!

Thank you interns!
If you've stopped by Sunnyside recently, you've probably noticed a few new faces. Mia Polk (second from left), a rising senior at East Nashville Magnet High School and Rohan Pethkar (far right), University School of Nashville Class of 2017, are summer interns at MHC through Mayor Megan Barry's Opportunity Now initiative. Mia has been working with Scarlett Miles to digitize the "Profiles of African Americans in Tennessee" collection, while Rohan is working with Jessica Reeves to digitize the source materials for all MHC historical markers. In addition, Rohan and Mia--along with graduate intern Kelsey--have attended meetings, lectures, planning sessions, and site visits to learn more about the work that MHC does. Good luck in the future, Mia and Rohan, and thank you for your hard work this summer!

Mark your calendars for these events coming in the next few months.
