As we begin 2026 and look ahead to what’s next for Memphis, I want to pause and share what I’m most proud of from the work we’ve done together.
Since taking office in January 2024, our public safety strategy has delivered real results. Compared to 2023, overall crime in Memphis is down 41 percent. Violent crime is down 30 percent. Murders are down 47 percent. And in 2025, crime declined in every single zip code in our city. Those results were independently confirmed by a Tennessee Bureau of Investigation audit that validated the accuracy of MPD’s reporting.
We set a clear goal to reduce overall crime by 40 percent in four years. We reached it in two. That does not mean the work is finished. It means the strategy is working, and this is the moment to sustain our gains and keep pushing forward. Progress is not an accident. It is the result of clear goals, disciplined strategy, and showing up every day to do the work.
Behind the numbers are families who feel safer pulling into their driveways, kids playing outside, and neighbors moving through their communities with greater confidence. We made deliberate choices to get there, opening the Downtown Command Center, expanding and integrating our camera network, realigning police patrols, coordinating with organizations focused on intervention and prevention, and investing in people, technology, and accountability.
Progress is not an accident. It is the result of clear goals, disciplined strategy, and showing up every day to do the work.
We also focused on the basics that shape daily life. More than 22,000 derelict and decaying properties were addressed. Over 13,000 lots were cut. Tens of thousands of illegally dumped tires were removed, and thousands of dump sites were cleaned across the city. Public Works shifted to a proactive, zone-based maintenance strategy. Our Fire Department maintained the highest ISO rating while modernizing training and equipment. MLGW continued strengthening reliability by replacing aging infrastructure.
At City Hall, we worked to be more responsive and transparent. We began modernizing 311, partnered with FedEx to improve customer service, launched an online capital projects tracker, and redesigned the City website to make information easier to find. We also invested in the future by connecting a record 1,807 young Memphians to jobs through MPLOY.
We still have work to do. But we have proof that disciplined strategy and steady execution can change the direction of a city. Memphis is proving that when we listen to community, act with intention, and stay the course, real change is possible.
In early February, I’ll share more about where Memphis is headed during my State of the City Address, as we come together to talk about our progress and the path ahead.
Happy New Year, Memphis.

Thank You Memphis!

As we close out 2025, we’re proud of how Memphis showed up last year.
From community moments and neighborhood wins to new investments, major milestones, and the culture that defines us, this year reminded us what’s possible when we move together. Memphis is more than a place — it’s a spirit, a sound, and a sense of belonging.
We’re carrying that momentum into the new year grateful, focused, and ready for what’s next.
Here’s to 2026.
