Merry Christmas, Memphis. And Happy Hanukkah, And Joyous Kwanzaa.

Whatever traditions you enjoy this holiday season, my hope is that this year, we can all embrace the values that unite us and celebrate the attributes that make our city great - our warmth and welcoming spirit, our innovation and drive, our compassion and connection.

Amid the hustle and bustle, let’s not forget that this season is a time to reflect on our joys and blessings; it is a time to remember others who are less fortunate; and it is a time to reset and restart our positive intentions. We have so much to be joyful for his year - crime is down in every district; and community center and library visits are up. We have committed, together as a city, to tackle blight and visual chaos across all of our neighborhoods, with an overwhelmingly positive result.  

So, when we gather this holiday, let’s remember to share the good news - the community wins and accomplishments - both big and small. Let’s share the stories of redemption, renewal, and revival. 

Let’s not let the algorithm choose our narrative for us. Let’s tell our Memphis story rather than being told what Memphis is - and what we are. 

Let’s remember that while every city has its challenges, Memphis is safer, cleaner, and more united than we were a year ago. And we will continue to build on those successes - we will do more.  

As for me, the Memphis I love is filled with promise. I believe we are in our era of yes - in our era of ‘let’s go.’ 

So, let’s let this holiday season remind us that the spirit of positivity is powerful; it grows when we nurture it, when we feed it, and fuel it. 

I believe each of us carries the power to change the path and continue the progress. 

Working together, we can foster a community where everyone thrives. 

In this season of miracles - let’s believe in each other.
