MLGW:

Due to recent water main breaks and freezing temperatures that have caused low water pressure in MLGW's water system, Memphis Light, Gas and Water has issued this advisory to notify water customers to boil their water prior to consumption (e.g., brushing teeth, drinking), in accordance with regulations of the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC).

This Boiled Water Advisory includes all MLGW water customers in Shelby County. Low pressure in the water system and breaks in water mains could allow harmful bacteria to affect water quality. Children, seniors, and persons with weakened immune systems are particularly vulnerable to harmful bacteria and all customers should follow these directions.

To ensure destruction of all harmful bacteria and other microbes, water for drinking, cooking, and ice making should be boiled and cooled prior to use for drinking water or human consumption purposes. The water should be brought to a vigorous rolling boil and then boiled for three minutes.

In lieu of boiling, individuals may purchase bottled water or obtain water from some other suitable source for drinking water or human consumption purposes. When it is no longer necessary to boil the water, MLGW will notify customers that the water is safe for drinking water or human consumption purposes.

Once the boil water notice is no longer in effect, MLGW will issue a notice to customers that rescinds the boil water notice.

MLGW also reminds customers to continue to conserve water usage.

Please share this information with other MLGW water customers, especially those who may not have received this notice directly (for example, people in apartments, nursing homes, schools, and businesses). You can do this by posting this notice in a public place or distributing copies by hand or mail.

Office of Emergency Management: Warming Centers

Thursday, February 19, more than 170 residents stayed at the City’s Warming Centers. The Office of Emergency Management (OEM) will continue to operate the following 24-hour warming centers:

1. Hollywood Community Center
2. Ruth Tate Senior Center
3. Lewis Senior Center (The Frayser Raleigh Senior Center was closed and relocated here.)

Garbage/recycling/outside the cart collections

 

City of Memphis Solid Waste collections are suspended Saturday, February 20th. 

The City will monitor conditions and determine when collection services will resume safety. We will communicate further when information is available.

When services resume, customers are asked to place your carts at the curb on your regular collection day and leave them until they are collected.

 

MATA Inclement Weather Update: Service Schedule for February 20, 2021.                                                                                                                                                                               

February 20, 2021, the Memphis Area Transit Authority (MATA) plans to only offer the following service:

1. Fixed-Route bus service will run between 5:15 a.m. and 6:45 p.m., but only on Routes 1, 11, 28, 32, 39, 42, 50 and 57. These routes were selected based on current road conditions.
2. MATAplus will operate between 5 a.m. and 6:45 p.m., but only for life sustaining trips (includes trips for dialysis) for customers who have reservations.
3. The William Hudson, Airways and American Way Transit Centers will remain open during service times only between 5:15 a.m. and 6:45 p.m. (Water fountains are not accessible at this time due to the current precautionary boil water advisory.)

Please note that the Main Street, Riverfront and Madison Trolley lines will not operate. Please continue to pay attention to information being shared via Omnilert, on the City of Memphis Nextdoor platform, on MATA Facebook and Twitter pages, and in the Service Alerts section of matatransit.com. Customers can also call the MATA Call Center at 901.274.MATA (6282).

It is open today until 6 p.m. and opens tomorrow at 7:30 a.m. MATA service will continue to be monitored throughout the day tomorrow based on inclement weather reports and road conditions. Another update will be shared tomorrow regarding service for Sunday, February 21, 2021.

 

Public Works:

Public crews  will continue focusing snow and ice operation resources on major streets at this time and will convert  back to  pothole repair within the next several days.

Public Works Snow and Ice Operation incudes:

• 6 brine units
• 16 sand trucks
• 14 snow plows 

Memphis Police Department is now under the Inclement Weather Crash Policy:

Drivers should, exchange names, addresses, phone numbers, insurance information and tag numbers of the vehicles involved.

• Take photograph(s) of the damage and tag number of vehicles involved
• Both drivers should call the nearest Memphis Police Station or the Memphis Police Traffic Office to report the accident. This should be done within five (5) working days.
• An Officer or PST will complete a Crash Report or a “Non-Investigated Crash Report” (NIR).

Shelby Country Health Department:

 

SHELBY COUNTY, TN – In alignment with the State of TN, the Shelby County Health Department will move into Phase 1b of the state’s COVID-19 vaccination plan on Wednesday, February 24, 2021. This phase includes residents who are 65 years and older, teachers, and childcare staff. 

 The Health Department has partnered with Shelby County Schools, all municipal school districts, the Achievement School District, and Independent Schools to make teacher vaccinations available starting Wednesday, Feb. 24. Teachers within the various school systems should look out for notice of appointment availability from their respective administrative offices. Other individuals in 1a1, 1a2, and 1b may schedule vaccination appointments through www.Shelby.Community as appointments become available.

 

All COVID-19 vaccination sites will remain closed Saturday and Sunday, February 20th and 21st except for the Southwest Tennessee Community College Whitehaven site.

In order to make up appointments missed due to inclement weather, individuals who had scheduled appointments at SWTCC on Thursday, February 11th and Friday, February 12th are rescheduled to the same time as the original appointments on Saturday, February 20th.

Persons with scheduled appointments at SWTCC on Tuesday, February 16th, Thursday, February 18th and Friday, February 19th are rescheduled to the same time as their original appointment on Sunday, February 21st.

There is no need to reschedule appointments. Those with appointments at the other sites will be automatically rescheduled on the same day of the week, time, and location next week. There is no need for anyone with a scheduled appointment this week to make a new appointment.

They will receive an email with their new appointment date.

Other Vaccination Providers Other providers are also vaccinating persons in the priority groups, including:

• Veteran’s Administration – Now vaccinating all veterans age 65 and older at the VA Medical Center at 1030 Jefferson Avenue. Veterans must be enrolled with the VA at www.va.gov to receive vaccination.
• Walmart – Now vaccinating those in group 1a1, 1a2, 70+. To schedule an appointment, go to https://www.walmart.com/cp/1228302
