Greetings,

As we inch closer to the holiday season its important to remember to MASK UP MEMPHIS and be ready for the next wave. The Greater Memphis area has several COVID-19 testing sites. Please check to see which site is closest to you here. Remember to CALL ahead and make an appointment. 

Our Small Business Stabilization Grant has provided $824,633 in relief to over 72 businesses. Please know that we are working hard to provide support to small businesses in need. My staff is available and ready to assist you. We will continue to offer this initiative until all funds are exhausted. Please carefully review the website to see if you qualify!

The City of Memphis Small Business Stabilization Grant will provide economic relief to small businesses suffering substantial economic injury. Funding can be used to pay for the costs of business interruption, working capital and business recovery challenges. The grant can also cover costs associated with reopening safely in accordance with the Shelby County Health Department and the Back to Business Plan.

The coronavirus pandemic has adversely affected small businesses everywhere and especially in our most vulnerable neighborhoods. The EDGE Neighborhood Emergency Economic Development (NEED) Grant was created to provide relief to neighborhood-serving businesses in our city's most distressed areas. Grants of up to $10,000 will be made to businesses located in New Markets Tax Credit Eligible Census Tracks throughout the City of Memphis that have experienced at least a 25% loss in revenue as a result of COVID-19.

For our MWSBE Spotlight this month we want to recognize Colby Midgett, owner of Premier Flowers. Premier Flowers, located in downtown Memphis at 10 N. Second Street #105 is a boutique flower shop situated across from Court Square. They handle everything from personal and special occasions to large events, weddings, funerals, and beyond! Since opening Premier Flowers in 2015 Ms. Midgett has been mentioned in a host of floral and wedding design magazines. She is an ambassador of Dress for Success Memphis as well as a volunteer with numerous local charities. In addition to being voted Top 10 To Watch by the Greater Memphis Chamber, she was featured in Memphis Magazine FACES in 2019 and 2020 and Style Blue Print's FACES in 2020.

Title VI Updates

The Office of Business Diversity & Compliance Director Joann Massey is also designated as the Title VI Coordinator for the City of Memphis. In this role, the Title VI Coordinator has the responsibility for collecting data surveys, evaluations, and other pertinent documentation in accordance with Title VI regulations. Additionally, the Title VI Coordinator represents the City of Memphis during on-site reviews by the respective entities and officers. Information flows from the Title VI Coordinator to the respective entities and officers to ensure accuracy and compliance with program requirements. It is also the responsibility of the Title VI Coordinator to verify and implement the City of Memphis’ Title VI Compliance and Implementation Plan.

What is Title VI of the 1964 Civil Rights Act?
