Six subcontractors hired for Lowertown Ballpark project

97% of work on ballpark to be completed by Minnesota companies

SAINT PAUL – Ryan Companies has awarded contracts to six subcontractors who will help build the structure of the Lowertown Ballpark.  Five of the six contractors are based in Minnesota.  More than 97% of the $63 million project will be completed by Minnesota-based contractors, vendors and consultants.

The following contracts have been awarded:

  • Precast concrete:  Hanson Structural Precast (Maple Grove) will install precast columns, beams, the deck plank, wall panels, raker beams, stadia sections, and seating tubs at the club/suite level.
  • Cast-in-place concrete:  Ryan Companies (Minneapolis) will install cast-in-place concrete footings, grade beams, foundation walls, field walls, retaining walls, steps, and sidewalks.
  • Masonry:  Serice Construction, Inc. (Inver Grove Heights) will install structural and architectural concrete masonry units, including burnished blocks.
  • Food service equipment:  Hockenbergs (Eagan) will install food service equipment.
  • Elevators:  Schindler Elevators (Eagan) will install three hydraulic passenger elevators and one hydraulic service elevator.
  • Playing field:  Peterson Companies (Chisago City) will install the complete playing field, including an environmental barrier, under-field drainage system, irrigation system, playing field soil mix, infield and warning track soils, sand-based sod for the playing field, and artificial turf for the indoor batting cages.
  • Seating:  American Seating (Grand Rapids, Michigan) will install the general, club-level and bleacher seating.
  • Steel supplier:  Central Minnesota Fabricating (Willmar) will supply all of the structural steel and metal decking for the administration and ticketing building, the club/suite level, and custom supports for field lighting.

Previous contracts that have been awarded to Minnesota companies include Pladson Environmental (Minneapolis), Rachel Contracting (St. Michael), Skyline Fire Protection (Maple Grove), Hunt Electric (Saint Paul), Schadegg Mechanical (South Saint Paul), Veit (Rogers), and Futures North (Minneapolis).

“Awarding these contracts is another huge step in the process of building this ballpark,” said Mark Maghrak, team leader for Ryan Companies.  “We have a great team, and we worked very hard to find as many local companies as possible.  It’s exciting that so much of the money being spent to build this project will stay here in Minnesota.”

Construction of the Lowertown Ballpark began in April 2014.  Opening Day is scheduled for May 2015.
