“Rescuing the Children” event to honor international victims of genocide
April is Genocide Awareness and Prevention Month in Minnesota
SAINT PAUL – The City of Saint Paul Department of Human Rights and Equal Economic Opportunity (HREEO), the Saint Paul HREEO Commission, and William Mitchell College of Law’s “World Without Genocide” program are co-sponsoring a special commemorative event to remember victims of genocide. “Rescuing the Children” will honor the 20th anniversary of the Rwandan Genocide. In 1994, more than 800,000 Rwandans were killed in a genocide that lasted only 100 days. “Rescuing the Children” will also commemorate the victims of the Holocaust and genocides in Armenia, Bosnia, Cambodia, Darfur, and other international conflicts.
Jack Rendler, Chair of the Board of Directors of World Without Genocide, will speak about his work with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) rescuing Rwandan children. Attendees will also have the opportunity to speak with survivors of international conflicts and visit the exhibit, “Tents of Witness: Genocide and Conflict.”
