Mayor Chris Coleman proclaims Friday, December 14th to be “Tommie Football Day” in the City of Saint Paul

 

University of Saint Thomas is scheduled to play in the NCAA Division III Championship on Friday against the University Of Mount Union

 

SAINT PAUL – Mayor Chris Coleman proclaimed Friday to be “Tommie Football Day” in the City of Saint Paul on Friday, December 14th as the University of Saint Thomas travels to the Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl in Salem, Virginia to face the University of Mount Union from Alliance, Ohio.

 

“I wish the entire Tommie football team my best as they travel to Virginia to face the Purple Raiders of the University Of Mount Union,” said Saint Paul Mayor Chris Coleman. “Regardless of the outcome, the entire Saint Paul community is proud to have you call our city your home and we wish you the best of luck tomorrow.”

 

This is the first national championship game in University of Saint Thomas football history. The Tommies finished the season 10-0 in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. Coverage is available all week at www.tommiesports.com.

 

Recently, both Concordia University and the University of St. Thomas won NCAA Volleyball Championships. The Tommies won the Division III title on November 17th in Holland, Mich. The Golden Bears won their sixth consecutive Division II national championship last weekend in Pensacola, Fla.

 

The proclamation, in its entirety, follows:

 

Whereas, the University of Saint Thomas “Tommies” Football team dominated the MIAC conference in 2012, going 10-0 to win the conference championship; and

 

Whereas, on Saturday December 8, 2012, Coach Glenn Caruso earned his 57th career victory at Saint Thomas in 5 years, making him the most winning coach in school history; and

 

Whereas, compiling a 39-2 record over three seasons, and riding a 14-game winning streak in 2012, the Tommies bested University of Wisconsin - Oshkosh to advance to the NCAA Division III Championship, their first appearance in a national championship game in school history; and

 

Whereas, on Friday December 14, 2012, the Tommies will take on Mount Union at the Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl in Salem, Virginia; and

 

Whereas, the residents of the City of Saint Paul wish the Tommies very well in this championship game.

 

Now, Therefore, I, Christopher B. Coleman, Mayor of the City of Saint Paul, do hereby proclaim Friday, December 14th, 2012, to be:

 

Tommie Football Day

 

in the City of Saint Paul.
