Fall Youth Sports Registration Opens June 1!
We know summer has barely started, but our fall sports registration is fast approaching! Fall sports offerings include soccer, flag football, lacrosse. Soccer and flag football are FREE for ages 9 and up and fall lacrosse is FREE for ages 7 and up! (Please note that fees apply for ages 4U, 6U and 8U but you can save by utilizing the Early Bird Discount and registering in the first 5 days of the month.)

Soapbox Derby Event
On your marks, get set...go! Our annual Soapbox Derby zooms off at Hidden Falls Regional Park on June 2 from 4:30-7:30pm. It's another boarder battle with Minneapolis so make sure to come cheer on your Saint Paul rec center team (with food and activities available for spectators.)
We are still in need of volunteers who can help bring cars back uphill, and help with other event operations. Wondering what kind of fun you're getting into? Watch this video from 2024 to learn more about the event!
Gate access: Access to Hidden Falls via the North Gate will be limited during the event from 4:30-7:30pm. Visitors arriving after the 4:30pm start time should plan to park at the top of the hill and walk down. Any visitor parked at the bottom of the hill should plan to attend the full length of the event as access to the road will be limited. Thank you for your cooperation, planning accordingly will help create a smooth and timely event!

Flint Hills Family Festival
Join us May 29-30 at Rice Park to kick off the summer with thrilling performances, student matinees, art-making activities, and more at the Flint Hills Family Festival. During the Festival, kid-friendly activities spark creativity, exciting outdoor performances are free to attend, and inspiring, low-cost indoor performances are fun for the whole family!

Waḳaŋ Ṭípi Center Grand Opening
Join for the of the new Waḳaƞ Ṭípi Center on May 29 from 11am-2pm.
Designed to honor the significance of Waḳaŋ Ṭípi Cave as a Dakota sacred site, the goal of Waḳaŋ Ṭípi Center is to serve as an intergenerational gathering place. The Grand Opening will feature reflections from partners, drum group Toká Máza, giveaways, and a shared meal.

Waterfest at Lake Phalen - May 30
Waterfest is back May 30, 2026 at Phalen Regional Park (next to the Phalen Lakeside Activity Center: 1530 Phalen Dr, St Paul, MN 55106).
This free, family festival celebrating our clean lakes provides an opportunity for outdoor hands-on learning about clean water, wildlife, and land and water conservation.

Saint Paul Get Down performer application closes June 1!
The Saint Paul Get Down is a hip-hop music showcase for young people 14-24 years old. All artists that fill out this application will have an opportunity to write, record, and produce their own music with local artist Terrell X. Free studio time and mentorship will be provided every Wednesday from 3pm-6pm at the Best Buy Teen Tech Center on Selby Ave. Artists that are chosen to perform will get a chance to play a set at a selected venue as well as earn a chance to open for a headlining act at the Target Stage on Harriet Island.

Dancing in the Park with Tapestry Folk Dance
Held on Tuesdays from 6-8pm from June 2-30 & Aug 4-25 at Harriet Island Wigington Pavilon Patio.
Built by loyal volunteers and sustained by long-standing community members, Tapestry has always been committed to celebrating the joys of dance and music from around the world. A variety of live performers will play while you learn to dance to the rhythm alongside community members, friends, and neighbors!

Summer Rec Check and summer camps
Choose from a variety of fun and safe summer programming options for youth. Register today as some camps and activities have limited spots remaining.

Summer camps and activities: Begin next Tuesday, June 2! Full and half-day camps for youth of all ages. Costs range from free up to $240.

Summer Rec Check: June 22-August 27. Free program for those entering grades 1-6 in the fall on Monday-Thursday from 1-4pm at 22 sites.

NEW FOR 2026: Teen Summer Rec Check at Wilder Recreation Center. That’s right, you heard us say TEEN! With everything you love about our school year Rec Check, but with a summer twist FOR TEENS entering grades 6-8 this fall. This program runs the same dates and times as the other Rec Check sites.

Summer S'more Fun
Looking for other ways to keep your youth busy this summer? In addition to our popular Summer Rec Check program, we offer , a recreational childcare program providing structured and unstructured activities for youth entering grades 1-6 this fall. Summer schedules provide full day care from 7am-6pm at three sites: Groveland, Highland Park and Northwest Como Recreation Centers. Cost is $44/day. (Financial assistance is available.)

Recreation for Preschoolers
We know this school year is barely over, but we are already prepping for fall! is now accepting applications for the 2026-2027 school year. This program for ages 3-5 encourages children to play, socialize, and grow from daily lesson plans that prioritize educational experiences and recreation. Daily activities includes free time, academic discovery areas, creative areas, circle time, art projects and large motor movement in the gym or outdoors. Children must be toilet trained (no diapers or pull ups).
This program is available at Edgcumbe and Linwood Recreation Centers, with varying half day/full day options and rates. (Financial assistance is available.)

Recreation in Motion brings outdoor summer fun to your neighborhood! This free, drop-in youth program offers athletic programs, STEM challenges, arts and crafts, games, and other organized activities led by the fun and energetic Rec in Motion team. Snacks will be served at each session. This is a free activity. No pre-registration is required.

Saint Paul Natural Resources: Our Natural Resources team hosts a variety of activities for all ages to get you outside and exploring nature in your local parks. All activities are free but some do require pre-registration. Programs include:

Restore! events: These events, hosted in partnership with, Wakaŋ Tipi Awaŋyaŋkapi, are intended for individual or small groups to help restore this park and be community stewards in the preservation of the Dakota sacred site, Wakáŋ Tipi. Dates available for pre-registration June - October.

Gardening Volunteer Opportunities: Many gardens across the city need help with water and weeding. We offer monthly events at Churchill Gardens May - October.

Fitness in the Parks
Fitness in the Parks is a free outdoor exercise program that brings a variety of fitness activities to many of Saint Paul’s beautiful parks. There is no registration required and classes are open to all fitness levels. All ages welcome and no experience is necessary.
Don't forget about our FitLots at Martin Luther King Recreation Center and Uŋčí Makhá Park.

Places to eat: City House on the Mississippi River and Dock & Paddle on Como Lake
Downtown Saint Paul's waterfront dining destination is back! City House is located in the historic Municipal Elevator and Sackhouse building along the Sam Morgan Regional Trail at 258 Mill Street. The restaurant features a patio overlooking the river and Harriet Island and serves up local craft beer, cider, and wine on tap as well as a delicious rotating seasonal menu. City House is open 11am-8pm daily and features live music* on select dates. *Check back for their 2026 schedule to be posted

Como Zoo & Conservatory events

Free Shuttle Service Returns for the Season on weekends beginning May 23 Make your visit to Como Park Zoo & Conservatory even easier by taking advantage of our free weekend shuttle service, operating Saturdays and Sundays, service shuttle is now running through August 23!
The shuttle transports guests from the off-site, staffed parking lot at 1930 Como Avenue, directly to the front doors of the Visitor Center. The shuttle runs continuously from 9:45am-6:45pm. Buses are wheelchair and stroller accessible.
Throughout the summer, guests can enjoy a full schedule of free daily programs, including Polar Bear Programs, Gorilla Programs, Tiger Talks, Gardener Chats, and more! Other program offerings to explore include:
Plus, Cafesjian’s Carousel is now open Thursday-Monday, 11:00am-4:00pm weather permitting. The Spring Flower Show Part II is also open inside the Marjorie McNeely Conservatory’s Sunken Garden is open through June 7.

Fitness Center Memberships: Memberships cost just $30/year for adults who live or work in Saint Paul. Affordable daily passes are also available.

Pickleball and tennis courts open: Staff have completed inspections and repairs at all tennis and pickleball sites. Torn or damaged nets were replaced as needed, and net heights were adjusted to ensure proper play standards. All sites on the list have now been visited and are ready for use, provided no new issues have occurred since our visit.
