  • Mother's Day Weekend Bonsai Show, May 13 and 14, 10 a.m. - 6 p.m.: Instead of buying a bouquet for Mom, make memories with Mom at the Marjorie McNeely Conservatory! Mother’s Day weekend marks the return of the Minnesota Bonsai Society Show, which will feature dozens of privately-owned trees all trained by members of the Minnesota Bonsai Society. Members will be on hand all weekend to answer your questions about everything from taking care of Bonsai, to which trees work the best. This is a unique opportunity to see beautiful privately owned bonsai, along with Como’s vast collection.
  • Zookeeper Apprentice applications, due May 19: This position, funded through City of Saint Paul's Right Track program. Learn more about the qualifications for this position and submit your application before the May 19 deadline.
  • Name the new ostriches, vote by May 22 at 11 a.m.: Have you heard? Como’s resident ostrich, Pickles, has two new friends and we're asking for your help to name them! Vote for your favorite combination. Come visit them this weekend & enjoy the Mother's Day Bonsai Show too!

Circus Juventas Spring Community Carnival

Join Circus Juventas from 12pm-4pm on May 13 for a carnival unlike any other! Pay-what-you-can (starting at $5/ticket) admission supports their spring fundraising efforts and includes carnival games, live music, inflatables, face painting, a circus performance, and more. Additional vendors and food and beverages trucks will be on site.

Environmental Volunteer Projects

Volunteer Park Stewards are needed to help assist in the upkeep and general beautification of Saint Paul's parks and trails. Volunteer activities include planting, mulching, weeding, trash cleanup and invasive plant removal.

Waterfest at Lake Phalen

Waterfest is back at Lake Phalen Regional Park on June 3 from 11am-4pm! This free, family festival celebrates our clean lakes and provides an opportunity for outdoor hands-on learning about clean water, wildlife, and land and water conservation. Experience activities on and around the water with Voyageur canoe and sailboat rides, paddleboats, canoes, and kayaks for checkout, fishing lessons, a fishing contest with prizes, water games, climbing walls, a jump castle, arts and crafts, face painting, lawn games, a Water Bar, prizes, performers, food trucks and lots more!

Give to the “Parks for All Campaign” today! Your donation can help make park programs available for all families. This fundraising campaign is a joint effort with the Saint Paul Parks Conservancy.

Work outdoors this summer for Saint Paul Parks and Recreation! We have many full and part time positions available at parks, rec centers, pools, golf courses, athletic complexes, Phalen Park Beach, and more. Entry level positions are available for ages 15 and up. Apply online today!

Reminders and Updates

  • Flood Updates: Roads, trails, and parkland along the Mississippi River may be closed due to spring flooding. Please use caution while exploring areas close to the river. Water levels can change quickly. Follow all posted signage and safety guidance. Do not pass barricades. Visit the City of Saint Paul flood webpage for more information.
  • Masks welcome, but not required: Saint Paul Mayor Melvin Carter has lifted the masking requirement for staff and visitors in City-controlled facilities. Face masks are welcome and will be available for anyone wishing to wear one. Visitors are still encouraged to maintain distance from others when possible, to wash hands frequently, and to stay home if feeling sick. Visit our COVID-19 Updates webpage for the latest information.
