Saint Paul police to escort Santa Claus on gift deliveries to children Thursday
Before Santa slides down any chimneys this year or tucks gifts under any trees, he and Mrs. Claus will spend Thursday cruising the streets of Saint Paul with the Saint Paul Police Department motors unit delivering gifts to hundreds of families at Children’s Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota and Gillette Children’s Hospital.
As part of the police department’s 12th annual Cops and Kids program. The officers on motorcycles will escort Santa, Mrs. Claus and elves to the hospitals to give gifts no matter the weather. They will also give support and well wishes to children who are hospitalized during the holidays. The program also helps to give games, movies and entertainment consoles to the hospitals for families to use while children are there.
Santa, Mrs. Claus and the elves will meet at Saint Paul Police Headquarters at 8 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 15, 2011 to load the gifts and will begin their procession at 8:45 a.m., traveling from police headquarters (367 Grove St.) to Children’s Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota, (345 Smith Ave. N.), at 8:45 a.m.
Later, at about 1 p.m., the group will also be delivering gifts to Gillette Children’s Specialty Healthcare (200 University Ave. E.). The motorcade will not travel to this hospital, but the gifts will be delievered.
Cops and Kids is supported by the generous donations from members of the department, internal employee fundraisers, an officer-organized summer motorcycle run and from the Saint Paul Police Foundation.
Media members are welcome to join as Santa and others prepare for and escort Santa to the hospitals as well as on their deliveries.
