News: WEEKLY SAINT PAUL FIRE & EMS BLOTTER


ASSAULT – Saint Paul Firefighter/Paramedics and EMTs responded to the area of east 9th Street and Robert Street North on September 21st at 6:51 pm for a 37 year old male who reported being struck in the face with a wood handle.  He was treated and transported to an area hospital. 

 

PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY – On September 21st at 8:34 pm, Saint Paul Firefighter/Paramedics and EMTs responded to the Payne-Phalen neighborhood for a 41 year old female who reported she had been shot.  Saint Paul Police arrived first and updated responders the female did not have a gunshot wound and may be experiencing a mental health emergency.  She was assessed and transported to an area hospital.

 

ASSAULT – Saint Paul Firefighter/Paramedics and EMTs responded to home in the Frogtown neighborhood on September 22nd at 3:32 pm for a 36 year old male who had numerous lacerations on his head due to an assault.  He was treated and transported to an area hospital.

GARAGE FIRE – On September 22nd at 7:21 pm, Saint Paul Firefighters were called to the 600 block of Minnehaha Avenue West for a report of a garage fire.  They arrived to find a fire that had been extinguished by the occupant.  The occupant stated he knocked a gas can off a work bench, causing it to spill.  He was about 10 feet away, using a rotary saw that threw sparks which caused a flash fire.  The occupant and a neighbor used a garden hose to extinguish the fire.  Keep anything producing a spark away from gasoline and gasoline vapors!  



ASSAULT – Saint Paul Firefighter/Paramedics and EMTs responded to the area of Greenbrier Street and Case Avenue on September 22nd at 6:12 pm after witnesses reported a 36 year old male sitting on the sidewalk that was conscious but not alert who had multiple injuries likely due to an assault.  He was treated and transported to an area hospital.

COOKING FIRE -     Saint Paul Firefighters were called to the 400 block of Maryland Avenue West on September 22nd at 9:36 pm for a report of an apartment on fire.  They arrived to find a locked door, forced entry, and found the apartment filled with smoke and food burning on the stove.  Damages are estimated at $100.  Cooking is the leading cause of residential fires.  To prevent cooking fires, stay and look when you cook!

GARAGE FIRE – ARSON – On September 23rd at 1:17 am, Saint Paul Firefighters responded to a report of a garage fire on the 1000 block of LaFond Avenue.   They arrived to find and extinguish a fire in a garage.  The investigation determined the fire was caused by arson.  Saint Paul Fire and Police Departments are investigating.  Anyone with any information on this or any other arson fire is urged to call the Minnesota Arson Hotline at 1-800-723-2020.



LABOR – Saint Paul Firefighter/Paramedics and EMTs responded to a medical clinic on the 900 block of Grand Avenue on September 23rd at 6:54 pm for a 26 year old in labor the fetal in distress.  With the assistance of staff from the medical center, the female was transported to an area hospital and while enroute, the baby’s vital signs improved.

MINNESOTA FALLEN FIREFIGHTER MEMORIAL – On September 25th, hundreds of people including members of the fire service from across the state, as well as political leaders that included Governor Dayton, gathered at the Minnesota Fallen Firefighters Memorial on the State Capitol grounds in Saint Paul to remember the 218 firefighters who have lost their lives in the line of duty in Minnesota.  As part of this year’s ceremony, Saint Paul Firefighter/Paramedic Shane Clifton’s name was added to the memorial and Chief Tim Butler presented a Minnesota flag to Shane’s family.  It is our hope that no more names ever need to be added to this memorial.

Kitchen fire

 

DWELLING FIRE – Saint Paul Firefighters were called to the 600 block of Fuller Avenue on September 27th at 1:04 pm for a passerby reporting smoke coming from the windows of a house.  Firefighters arrived to find a fire in the kitchen of the home.  While no people were home at the time of the fire, a dog in the home died as a result of smoke inhalation.  The investigation determined the fire was likely caused by an electrical arc.  Damages are estimated at $35,000.  \
