News: WEEKLY SAINT PAUL FIRE & EMS BLOTTER

This feature we call “Fire & EMS Blotter” is a weekly update of the activities of the Saint Paul Fire Department.  During the week of May 25th through May 31st, the Saint Paul Fire Department responded to 843 calls for service. Here is a sampling of some of the emergency and non-emergency activities from information provided by the fire department.

GARAGE FIRE – ARSON – On May 25th at 2:36 am, Saint Paul Firefighters responded to a report of two garages on fire on the 1100 block of Pleasant Avenue. The investigation determined the fire was caused by arson.  Anyone with any information on this or any other arson fire is urged to call the Minnesota Arson Hotline at 1-800-723-2020.






MEMORIAL DAY SERVICE – Saint Paul Firefighters and members of the Local 21 Fire Honor Guard participated in a Memorial Day service at Calvary Cemetery on May 28th.

ELECTRICAL SHOCK – On May 28th at 12:26, Saint Paul Firefighter/Paramedics and EMTs responded to a home in the Highland neighborhood for a 30 year old male who received an electrical shock when attempting to plug in an aquarium pump to an extension cord.  The patient was assessed and declined transportation to the hospital.

GARAGE FIRE – Saint Paul Firefighters responded to a report of a garage fire on the 1200 block of Seminary Avenue on May 29th at 10:07 pm.  Firefighters arrived to find one garage fully involved in flames with heat damage to five other garages and a neighbor’s vehicle.  The fire was likely caused by either an ash tray inside the garage or a charcoal grill next to the garage.  Damages are estimated at $63,900.  



MISSING PERSON SEARCH – Saint Paul and North Saint Paul Firefighters participated in a missing person search on May 29th for a 78 year old Saint Paul man who had been missing for approximately three hours.  He was found in less than an hour 2 ½ miles away when North Saint Paul Firefighters received a signal from his personal LoJack transmitter.  He was returned safely to his home in the Battle Creek neighborhood of Saint Paul.  The LoJack program, also known as Project Lifesaver, is a county-wide program provided jointly by the fire departments throughout Ramsey County.  For more information about this valuable life-saving program, please call Community Paramedic Ann of the Saint Paul Fire Department at 651-666-8429.

 

ANIMAL BITE – Saint Paul Firefighter/Paramedics and EMTs responded on May 30th at 11:52 am to a home in the Highland neighborhood for a 97 year old female who was bitten by her cat two days prior and was feeling ill since then.  She was treated and transported to an area hospital.

 

MOTOR VEHICLE CRASH – On May 30th at 2:05 pm, Saint Paul Firefighter/Paramedics and EMTs responded to the area of East Maryland Avenue and Sylvan Street for a 36 year old female involved in a motor vehicle crash.  She was assessed and declined transportation to the hospital.


GARAGE FIRE – On May 30th at 3:53 pm, Saint Paul Firefighters responded to a report of smoke coming from a garage on the 1200 block of Burr Street.  Firefighters arrived to find a fire in the interior of the garage.  The fire was likely caused by a cigarette butt in the cushion of a couch in the garage.  Damages are estimated at $8,000.

MOTORCYCLE CRASH – Saint Paul Firefighter/Paramedics and EMTs responded to Westbound Interstate 94 at Mounds Boulevard on May 30th at 9:02 pm for a 39 year old male who was unresponsive after crashing into the center median while riding a motorcycle.  He was not wearing a helmet or other protective gear.  He was treated and transported to an area hospital.


Flint Hills Children's Festival

FLINT HILLS CHILDRENS FESTIVAL – The Saint Paul Fire Department has a tent at the Flint Hills Children’s Festival in Rice Park this week where children can learn about fire safety and make an origami Sparky the Fire Dog.  The festival includes free activities in Rice Park as well as performances in the Ordway and Landmark Center.  Approximately 5,000 school-aged students are expected to attend each day.  The festival runs May 31st through June 5th.
