Three arrested in Mississippi River Boulevard attempted robbery, shooting

Saint Paul Police arrested three juvenile males in connection with a robbery that left another juvenile dead the night of July 31.

 

The three were arrested for robbery throughout the weekend as the investigation unfolded. Two live in Saint Paul, the other is from an eastern suburb.

 

According to investigators, four juveniles attempted to rob two adults in the area of Summit Avenue and Mississippi River Boulevard at approximately 10:30 p.m. Friday, July 31.

 

One of the juvenile suspects was wearing a mask and gloves and approached the victims while displaying a handgun. One of the victims of the robbery also took out a gun and shot the suspect. The robbery victim, who has a valid conceal and carry permit, immediately called police and rendered first aid while the other three suspects fled.

 

Saint Paul Fire Medics responded to the scene and pronounced the suspect dead. He has been positively identified by the Ramsey County Medical Examiner as Lavauntai Broadbent, 16, of West Saint Paul.

 

Both robbery victims, who are not being identified, are fully cooperating with police.

 

This is an active and ongoing investigation, and police are asking for the public’s help. Anyone who has recently been involved in a robbery or attempted robbery with suspects wearing masks and gloves is asked to call the police department’s Homicide Unit at 651-266-5650.
