Mayors Coleman, Hodges to unveil My Brother’s Keeper Community Challenge Action Plan

Plan will set aggressive course for work to happen over the next year

TWIN CITIES – Just eight months since Minneapolis Mayor Betsy Hodges and Saint Paul Mayor Chris Coleman accepted President Barack Obama’s My Brother’s Keeper (MBK) Community Challenge, the two Mayors will officially unveil the Minneapolis/Saint Paul MBK Community Challenge Action Plan at an event at the University of Minnesota on Tuesday, May 19, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. Developed with input and support from more than 90 Twin Cities grant-makers and community partners, the plan will provide the framework for better addressing the needs of boys and young men of color in the Twin Cities – which is the heart of the MBK initiative.

Young men from the community will be introducing the keynote speakers, and spoken word artists from the High School for Recording Arts will present throughout the program.

In 2014, Mayor Betsy Hodges joined Saint Paul Mayor Chris Coleman in accepting President Barack Obama’s My Brother’s Keeper Community Challenge. My Brother’s Keeper (MBK) is an ambitious initiative to fully include boys and young men of color in our cities’ success and in America’s promise.

The six MBK goals are:

  • Get a Healthy Start and Enter School Ready to Learn
  • Read at Grade Level by Third Grade
  • Graduate from High School
  • Complete Post-secondary Education or Training
  • Gain Employment
  • Keep Kids Safe and Give Them a Second Chance
