Mayor Coleman, Saints to host Education Day at CHS Field
More than 5,000 schoolchildren to attend Tuesday’s exhibition game
SAINT PAUL – Saint Paul Mayor Chris Coleman and the Saint Paul Saints will welcome more than 5,000 kids from the greater metropolitan area for a fun, educational day at CHS Field on Tuesday, May 19, at 11:30 a.m., at the Saints final exhibition game against the Sioux City Explorers.
“When we built this ballpark, we did so with the promise that it would be a place for residents of all ages and backgrounds,” said Mayor Coleman. “Education Day embodies that vision, as we turn baseball into a fun, hands-on learning experience.”
Mayor Coleman will be greeting students from Maxfield Elementary, Jackson Elementary and Benjamin E. Mays IB World School as they arrive at the stadium on Education Day, and will be participating in an “Are you smarter than the Mayor?” activity with students from St. Anthony Park Elementary School on the field during the first inning.
The Saints provided discounted tickets and lesson plans for all teachers and students prior to the game. Lessons focused on four main areas of course work: math, science, social studies and language arts. The lesson plans range from learning how to calculate a player’s stats, to learning the definition of baseball terms, to identifying places on a map where Saints’ opponents are from.
