Jail SORT Wins Awards

The Stearns County Jail Special Operations Response Team (SORT) recently participated in a competition with other SORT crews from Mille Lacs, Sherburne and Wright counties. 

The seven-event competition included tactical simulations and physical challenges: Officer Rescue, Individual Shoot, Team Shoot, Obstacle Course, Pull-ups, Log Run, and Tug-of-War.

Stearns earned first place in Officer Rescue, Pull-ups, Team Shoot and the Obstacle Course.  Check out a short clip of the Officer Rescue event.

What is SORT?

SORT is like a SWAT team inside the Jail.  They handle high-risk situations such as cell extractions, major disturbances between inmates, hostage situations and riots. SORT has been in action for almost 4 years and they provide a valuable service protecting both inmates and staff.
