Avon Township Crash

On January 10, 2024, at approximately 8:42 p.m., the Stearns County Emergency Communications Center received a call reporting a crash with injuries on County Road 9 and Koppy Lane in Avon Township. A 2005 Chevrolet Silverado being driven by Nicholas Scott Mayer, 28, of Richmond, left the roadway southbound on County Road 9 and hit a road approach for Koppy Lane. The vehicle then struck a power pole on the southwest corner of the intersection. The passenger in the vehicle was identified as Laura Marie Polejewski, 24, of Avon. Both parties were transported to the St. Cloud Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

The Stearns County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on scene by the Avon Police Department, Avon Fire and Rescue, and Mayo Ambulance. The investigation is ongoing, and alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash.
