What is Ski Patrol?

Ski Patrol is a group of volunteers that patrol the cross-country ski trails from December through February and report on the conditions. The outstanding quality of our cross-country ski trails wouldn't be possible without the help of our dedicated Ski Patrol Volunteers!

Cross-country ski trails are in:

  • Quarry Park and Nature Preserve
  • Warner Lake County Park
  • Mississippi River County Park
  • Kraemer Lake - Wildwood County Park

Ski Patrol Registration begins October 20, 2021

  • Go to the Online Recreation Catalog
  • Log In/Create Account (first time users = "Create Your SCPD Account").
  • From the Catalog, go to the “Volunteer Opportunities” Tab and Choose Ski Patrol.
  • Choose the Park and the Date. Follow through all prompts until you receive a Receipt.
  • Unfortunately, the system will not send out reminders, so please make a note on your personal calendar.

Expectations of Ski Patrol Volunteer

  1. Ski the park for two hours. Assist Park users as you are qualified.
  2. If the weather or the trails are in poor condition, we would still like you to come to the park; ski, hike, or do your observation from the comfort of your vehicle
  3. Submit a Ski Patrol Report. Observe and report on:
    • Number of vehicles when you arrive and when you leave
    • Number of skiers, hikers, snowshoers, and dogs
    • Estimated temperature, wind speed, and snow depth
    • Trail Conditions, hazards, things in need of repair, any problems, or concerns
    • Please leave comments. We appreciate feedback.
    • Adding a photo is optional but they help a lot.
    • Click Submit and you’re done!

Our Appreciation

After we receive two Ski Patrol Reports we will send out a Quarry Park Annual Parking Permit. (Limit 2) We appreciate extra Ski Patrol Reports, but they do not count towards the free permit.

Trail Grooming and Conditions:  After the first snowfall, packing is done to set up a base before setting classic tracks. The trails are usually groomed when there is 4 to 6 inches of snow or a significant amount of new snow. Go to the Winter Ski Trail Conditions for current information.
