Aerial Lift Snags Powerline

On December 6, 2020 at approximately 4:57 p.m., the Stearns County Sheriff’s Office Communications Center received a call reporting an aerial lift stuck on a powerline near the address of 38922 County Rd. 1 in Brockway Township, approximately 3 miles north of the City of Sartell. Information received indicated two people were in the lift, which was stuck in the extended position, 30 feet from the ground.  Portions of the lift were also reportedly on fire.

Stearns County Deputies, along with the homeowners and neighbors, used fire extinguishers and were able to put out most of the fire on and around the lift. Xcel Energy personnel were able to turn off the power and remove the line entangled to the lift while St. Stephen and Sartell Fire Departments assisted the two individuals stuck in the top of the lift.

Deputies learned that the homeowner, Jonathon Boerger, 40, Sartell, had been hanging Christmas lights in a tree when he struck the power line. There were no injuries, and the aerial lift was disabled.

The Stearns County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by St. Stephen Fire Department, Sartell Fire Department and Mayo Ambulance.
