Emmett Scott High School to Emmett Scott Recreation Center
Opening in 1920 Emmett Scott High School was one of the first schools for black people in Rock Hill. Named after prominent educator and secretary to Booker T. Washington, Emmett J. Scott, the school housed all twelve grades until 1956 and was a junior high and high school until desegregation in 1970. Emmett Scott High School was purchased by the City of Rock Hill in 1970 and was turned into a recreation center. The Center now offers programs such as basketball, exercise, art, and boxing to the Rock Hill community.
Per City Ordinance, face coverings are required. With some exceptions, wear face coverings inside City facilities, when using public or commercial transportation, and inside any retail, service or food service establishment in Rock Hill City limits.
