 County offices will close Friday for July Fourth
Richland County Government offices will be closed Friday, July 3, in celebration of the Fourth of July holiday.
All County Solid Waste and Recycling facilities will close Friday and Saturday, July 4, reopening Monday, July 6. The Lower Richland Drop-Off Center and Clemson Road Recycling Site, which are normally closed Mondays, will also open on Monday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Curbside collection will run as regularly scheduled.
While County offices are closed, residents can access essential services on the County's website.
 Percival Road upgrade helps safety, connectivity
Residents in Richland County’s Beltway area have extra reason to celebrate this holiday. On Wednesday, the County marked an upgrade in local transportation infrastructure with a ribbon cutting for the Percival Road Sidewalk project in Columbia.
Local leaders at the event, including County Councilmembers and administrative staff, spoke about the array of potential benefits from the project related to health, public safety, economic growth and connectivity. The new sidewalk covers 1.4 miles and stretches from Forest Drive to Decker Boulevard, touching Council districts 3, 6 and 10.

 CRFD staff earn statewide award after lifesaving rescue
Sixteen members of the Columbia-Richland Fire Department (CRFD) were honored at the recent S.C. Fire-Rescue conference in Myrtle Beach for their lifesaving rescue efforts.
The state Firefighters' Association selected CRFD first-shift crews on Engine 1, Rescue 1, Engine 6 and Ladder 7 for the prestigious Meritorious Award. The award is presented to firefighters or fire departments that have rendered services beyond the ordinary course of duty in an attempt to save a life. In March 2025, all four companies took action to rescue a man involved in a vehicle accident on I-126 in Columbia.
Many of the assisting firefighters were presented with the award at the June 13 conference. Honorees who could not attend the ceremony were honored June 17 in Columbia.

Public Works team member lauded for valuable service
A Richland County employee was recently recognized for setting a high bar for remarkable service:
