Richland County Councilmembers and senior staff helped celebrate a groundbreaking April 2, as The Meeting Place Church of Greater Columbia opened its new Pavilion and Incubator Program on Columbia Mall Boulevard. The church's new venture aims to foster fellowship among residents and stimulate entrepreneurship in the community.
In her remarks at the event, County Councilwoman Tyra Little (District 3) spoke about the program's potential to enhance economic development in Northeast Richland. State and federal officials, including U.S. Rep. Jim Clyburn and S.C. Sen. Darrell Jackson, also spoke at the groundbreaking.

 Southern Belle's adds soul to County's food truck scene
On Tuesday, the Richland County Office of Small Business Opportunity (OSBO) helped welcome new tastes to the community at a ribbon cutting for the launch of Southern Belle’s Eatery in downtown Columbia. Southern Belle’s, a catering and food truck company at 1112 Harden St., serves up down-home staples such as fish and grits, collard greens and peach cobbler, while also providing meals for weddings and private events.
Speakers at Tuesday’s event included OSBO Director Pam Green and Program Coordinator Timary Harris, who welcomed the business to the County’s restaurant and food truck scene. Jessica Capers, owner of Southern Belle’s Eatery, also gave remarks.
 Community Development Week celebrates change agents
National Community Development Week, celebrated April 6-10, provides the chance to highlight the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program. This program has provided much-needed public services and infrastructure improvements in communities nationwide since 1974.
On its social media platforms this week, Richland County has highlighted the integral work of its Community Development Office in using HUD-funded grants, including the CDBG program, to ensure all residents can access needed resources.

Homeownership workshop lends a hand to residents
Richland County Community Development hosted a homeownership workshop Tuesday at the Sheriff’s Department Annex at Central Court in Columbia. About 75 residents gained insight on Community Development’s Homeownership Assistance Program while learning about down payment and closing-cost support for eligible families.

Richland County staff earn kudos for excellent service
Richland County employees were recently recognized for setting a high bar for remarkable service.
- A resident commended Sierra Greene, of Richland County Utilities, for being helpful and pleasant during their recent interaction.
- A resident who was involved in an accident recognized two Richland County EMS team members for their invaluable response at the scene. Referring to Kennedy Cravens, the paramedic crew leader, and EMT Travis Bell, the resident said: "I can't tell you enough how much their services meant to me."
