County Government offices closing for holiday
Richland County Government offices will close Thursday, Nov. 27 and Friday, Nov. 28 for Thanksgiving. There will be no curbside waste or recycling collection Thursday. Curbside pickup will be pushed back a day, so collection routes scheduled for Thursday will be picked up Friday, and Friday’s collections will be picked up Saturday, Nov. 29.
The County’s C&D Landfill Drop-off Center, Lower Richland Drop-off Center and Clemson Road Recycling Site will be closed Thursday and Friday and return to their regular schedules Saturday.

Residents came out in droves to Saturday’s final “Give Thanks Giveaway Drive-Thru,” organized by the Richland County Recreation Commission, the Richland County Sheriff's Department and other community partners. Councilwomen Tyra K. Little (District 3) and Gretchen D. Cooper (District 7) helped deliver turkeys and produce to recipients.
Saturday's event was the last in a series of food giveaways before the Thanksgiving holiday. Richland County thanks the Recreation Commission, the Sheriff's Department, and all contributing sponsors for helping nourish children and families in our community.

Cooking food for Turkey Day? Remember tips to stay safe
This week, residents will spend hours in the kitchen preparing Thanksgiving meals. Having a fire safety plan in place should be an important part of holiday meal preparation.
To help ensure your Turkey Day stays trouble-free, here are a few safety tips:
- When cooking on the stovetop, stay in the kitchen so you can keep an eye on the food. Stay in the home while cooking a turkey.
- Keep children at least 3 feet away from a hot stove.
- Make sure kids stay away from hot food and liquids, and keep knives, matches and utility lighters out of children's reach.
- Ensure your smoke alarms are working.
- If you have a small grease fire on your stovetop and decide to fight it, smother the flames with a lid cover and turn off the burner. If the grease fire is in the oven, close the door and turn the oven off. Never use water to try to extinguish a grease fire.
Spread the joy: Drop off children's items through Thursday
Richland County EMS is accepting donations of toys, clothing and other items as part of "Stuff an Ambulance," a holiday tradition to benefit Richland County Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA).
To support the effort, drop off new, unwrapped donations at EMS headquarters, 1410 Laurens St., Columbia, during business hours through Thursday, Dec. 4. For more information, contact Capt. Adams or Lt. Griffin of EMS: 803-576-3409.
