Richland County Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) held its second annual golf tournament Monday at Fort Jackson Golf Club in Columbia. Sponsoring businesses and golf enthusiasts, including County Administrator Leonardo Brown, hit the links to raise funds for the County's CASA Foundation and enjoyed some friendly competition for a good cause.
CASA advocates for abused and neglected children in the County's Family Court system by providing quality volunteer and legal representation. Find out about the work of CASA on the organization's website.

COLLECTIVE CONVERSATION. On Wednesday, Councilman Derrek Pugh (District 2) hosted a town hall at Upper Richland Community Center in Columbia covering a proposed rezoning.
During the public meeting, County Administrator Leonardo Brown and Solid Waste and Recycling Manager Syndi Castelluccio discussed future plans for 80 acres of County-owned land located near the County’s C&D Landfill. Councilman Pugh and County staff addressed relevant questions and concerns with residents.

 Council recognizes Fashion Week, other local entities
During their meeting Tuesday, Richland County Councilmembers recognized members of the community, including:

The ColaFW Alliance and Columbia Fashion Week team, whose members were presented with a resolution naming Nov. 2-8 as Columbia Fashion Week in the County.
- The County’s Community Planning and Development Department, which was honored with a resolution recognizing October as Community Planning Month.
- The University of South Carolina Gamecocks equestrian team, which was recognized with a resolution celebrating the team's winning the Southeastern Conference championship.

New tax payment kiosks spread convenience, efficiency
On Wednesday, Richland County launched two more payment kiosks to help residents to pay their tax bills remotely. The full-service kiosks are at Ballentine and North Springs Park community centers; a third kiosk opened Oct. 8 at the Hopkins Magistrate's Office.
State and County leaders, including County Treasurer Kendra L. Dove, Administrator Leonardo Brown and Councilmembers Jesica Mackey, Jason Branham, Tyra Little and Tish Dozier Alleyne, attended ceremonies Wednesday to celebrate the kiosks' opening.
In addition to the kiosks, which are available during regular business hours Monday through Friday, residents can also pay County taxes in person, online or by mail.

Residents, staff discuss Penny projects at public meeting

On Oct. 16, the Eastway Park Homeowners Association hosted a community meeting with Richland County staff at Bluff Road Park in Columbia to get an update on ongoing Transportation Penny projects.
District 10 Councilwoman Cheryl English was on hand to field questions from constituents and discuss how these projects, including the Atlas Road Widening, will impact residents.

Animal Care team unleashes a learning opportunity

Last week, Richland County Animal Care Officers Rayvoughn Ray and James Cook and Office Manager Felicia Pringle attended Career Day at Joseph Keels Elementary School in Columbia. The Animal Care team discussed the department's work with students, explaining how officers respond to animal-related emergencies. They also highlighted career paths within animal care and emphasized the importance of responsible pet ownership.
New medical facility boosts care in Northeast Richland

On Thursday, Prisma Health announced the opening of its newest Midlands medical facility with a ribbon cutting at Northeast Medical Park, 1120 Roberts Branch Parkway, Columbia. Local and state officials, including County Council Chair Jesica Mackey (District 9) and Councilwoman Gretchen D. Cooper (District 7), were on hand for the opening.

The $128 million medical park houses a full-service pharmacy and an array of diagnostic and treatment services, including cardiology, orthopedics, internal medicine and more. The new location will expand access to affordable health care for residents of Northeast Richland and surrounding areas. |
