In observance of Labor Day, the Town of Hilton Head Island administrative offices will be closed on Monday, Sept. 7, and will reopen at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 8.

A Little Labor Day History Labor Day, observed on the first Monday in September, celebrates the social and economic achievements of American workers. Originating in the late nineteenth century, the holiday was established after labor activists advocated for a federal day to recognize workers' contributions to America’s strength, prosperity, and well-being. It has been a national holiday since June 28, 1894.
In that spirit, we proudly celebrate our employees who keep Town services running for residents and visitors. We also extend our gratitude to the thousands of workers across Hilton Head Island who help our community thrive.
We wish everyone a Happy Labor Day. Enjoy your well-deserved day off!
Dogs on the Beach: After Labor Day until the end of September, dogs can be on the beach from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. if they’re on a leash. From 5 p.m. to 10 a.m., they can be on leash or under voice control. From October through March, our furry friends are welcome on the beach at any time, as long as they’re on leash or under voice control. Please remember to always clean up after your pets and respect others’ space while enjoying the beach.
Beach Parking: As we wrap up the summer season, we will pause paying-for-parking at our beach parks on Monday, Sept. 7, 2026, at 5 p.m. It will resume March 1, 2027.
Breeze Trolley Service: Labor Day marks the final run of the season for the Breeze Trolley Service on Hilton Head Island. For more information about this seasonal service, please visit hiltonheadislandsc.gov.

Beaufort County is calling on residents to serve as poll workers for the Nov. 3, 2026, General Election, with an immediate need for approximately 300 new workers to help staff polling locations across the county. Poll workers who complete training and work on Election Day will receive a stipend and bonus from Beaufort County totaling $235.
"We have been fortunate to have capable citizens willing to attend training and serve their neighbors at the polls," said Mr. Matthew Sweeney, Chairman of the Board of Voter Registration and Elections of Beaufort County. "Their commitment is essential, but with continued growth in voter registrations, precincts, and polling locations, we now have an urgent need to recruit new poll workers across Beaufort County."
Beaufort County is one of the top 10 counties in South Carolina by registered voters and administers elections for 134 precincts countywide. With several statewide and local races on the ballot, county election officials anticipate strong turnout for the November 3 General Election.
"We encourage Beaufort County residents who care about serving their community and supporting well-run elections to join us," said Ms. Jean Felix, Director of the Board of Voter Registration and Elections of Beaufort County.
