On June 1, the Town of Hilton Head Island started construction on a pathway, access road, and parking lot upgrades at the United States Postal Service (USPS) north end location on William Hilton Parkway.
This project furthers the Town’s goal of enhancing safe access and connectivity among the Northpoint on Jarvis Creek (Northpoint) neighborhood, Gumtree Road and the Hilton Head Island public schools campus. The Town continues to collaborate with its development partner, OneStreet Residential, and the USPS on these improvements. Construction will occur alongside the ongoing development of the Northpoint neighborhood, which began in February 2026.
As the Town invests in public infrastructure for Northpoint, this project is a key step in making the area more accessible, connected, and safe for residents and workers in surrounding neighborhoods. It also supports the Town's Strategic Action Plan to enhance major corridors and streets by improving safety, mobility, and quality of life for residents, visitors, and businesses.

Mitchelville Road in the historic Baygall community is open again after crews finished paving and stormwater improvements. These improvements have turned Mitchelville Road into a safer, more accessible route for residents and visitors. The upgrades also make it easier for municipal services, like Fire Rescue, to reach the area during emergencies. Here’s a quick look at what was done:
- We paved 0.256 miles (1,350 ft) of the dirt portion of Mitchelville Road.
- New drainage was installed to help manage stormwater and support the community.
- The road was striped and permanent traffic signs were added to make it safer for everyone.
- The new section of road directly serves 9 parcels and indirectly provides more access to 11 additional homes at the end of Mitchelville Road.

The Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1 through Nov. 30, placing coastal communities at risk for hurricanes and other tropical weather events. Preparing before a storm threatens can help protect lives and property, and speed recovery efforts after an event.
To help the public stay safe and be ready, we have developed guides outlining essential steps everyone should take to prepare for hurricanes.
