Town News This Week - October 10, 2025 |

This Week’s Progress (Oct. 4-10) Due to ongoing adverse weather and ocean conditions, Marinex Construction paused sand pumping work at Pine Island Beach for several days this week to ensure the crew's safety. Rough seas are expected to delay beach renourishment operations until Saturday.
Despite these delays, the Marinex crew was able to capture impressive drone footage showcasing progress at Pine Island. Click here to take a peek.
Additionally, weather-related delays have postponed plans to till the newly placed sand at Fish Haul Beach. Tilling, which was originally scheduled for this week, will now take place in late October.
Looking Ahead (Oct. 11-17) The Marinex Construction crew will continue to monitor weather and ocean conditions and pump sand on Pine Island beach if it is safe to do so. During the sand placement work, the entire beach will be closed. The public is advised to observe and follow all posted signs.

Experience Gullah is a cultural website and wayfinding app that provides an interactive journey through the Gullah Geechee heritage of Hilton Head Island. Launched by the Gullah Geechee Historic Neighborhoods Community Development Corporation (CDC), the app highlights seven historic sites, including Historic Mitchelville Freedom Park and the Old School House Park. Each site features QR codes that share stories of culture, resilience, and community. Developed in partnership with Solaos, Inc., this project aligns with the Town’s Strategic Action Plan Goal #7, which aims to preserve, protect, and celebrate Gullah Geechee culture and heritage.

We join Hilton Head Island Airport in congratulating the winner of their artwork competition - Charleston mixed-media artist Christy Kinard! Her winning piece, "Focused Precision," will be reproduced on vinyl and installed on a 16-by-28-foot glass wall inside the new terminal, serving as a welcoming sight for travelers for years to come. The airport’s Terminal Improvement Project will more than double the terminal’s size and capacity, enhancing the airport while celebrating the island’s vibrant artistic community. Christy's work is deeply rooted in memories of the Lowcountry — summers spent in Sea Pines, fresh flowers, coastal light, and the textiles that surrounded her Southern upbringing.
