Town Staff members Kelli Uyesugi, Senior Stormwater Project Manager, and Cary Schumacher, Stormwater Maintenance Program Administrator, recently brought the world of stormwater to life for the K-5 students at Hilton Head Prep.
Their presentation to this group of young Islanders covered a range of topics, from the definition and importance of stormwater to the differences between pervious and impervious pavement. They explained how stormwater inlets work and where they lead, discussed what should and shouldn't go into stormwater drains, and highlighted important safety precautions around stormwater systems.
The session wrapped up with a lively Q&A, where curious minds were rewarded with exciting prizes. "It was such a wonderful moment because they were engaged and had so many questions," Cary shared, reflecting on the enthusiastic participation of the students.
