In the wake of his passing, our Town is remembering former Hilton Head Island Mayor Tom Peeples as a leader who left an indelible mark on our community and beyond. Peeples served on Town Council from 1989 to 2010, including 15 years as Mayor. He is the only person to serve more than one term as Hilton Head Island Mayor. He will be greatly missed, but his legacy of service will continue to inspire us all. A special memorial service has been planned to commemorate Mayor Peeples’ life, and his family has extended an invitation to the entire community to attend.

In honor of Earth Day, which we celebrated on April 22, Town staff stepped out to make a difference in our community. Last Monday, Town employees Mike DeMaria, Whitaker Knight, Melinda Standridge, TJ Jett, along with residents, convened at Cherry Hill School to make a meaningful impact. Dividing into groups, they diligently cleaned up trash along Beach City, Dillon, and Fish Haul roads. The team amassed ten bags of trash, three tires, and even an old computer monitor, totaling an estimated 200 lbs. of waste.
Continuing the momentum, Town employees TJ Jett, Josh Gruber (accompanied by his son), and Robin Swift united on Friday to tidy up areas along the pathway on Squire Pope Road, demonstrating the importance of community service and environmental awareness. Their efforts resulted in the collection of six bags of trash, amounting to an estimated 65 lbs.
Let's all strive to perpetuate the Earth Day spirit daily by contributing to the cleanliness of our community.
