Dorchester County Opens a New Library in N. Charleston
"Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much." These iconic words by Helen Keller rang especially true on August 18th when Dorchester County, North Charleston, and Dorchester District Two all came together to commemorate the new North Charleston Dorchester County Public Library.
This new library located off of Patriot Blvd. will house both a public library and a new school library for Fort Dorchester High School. This will create an environment where both students and the public can come together to learn and explore new worlds through the power of reading.

The site officially opened to the public on Monday, August 28th, at 10:00am. The library's hours of operation are:

Make Sure You're Prepared for Any Disaster
Hurricanes, earthquakes, wildfires. Do you know what you would do in an emergency event? Is your family prepared for any disaster?
These are the questions National Preparedness Month wants you to answer! During September, take the time to sit down and write out everything you need to respond to any disaster that might hit your home. Stock up on hurricane supplies before a major storm is projected to hit your area, or make sure important valuables and documents are in a fireproof safe in case of a housefire.
No matter what safety precautions you take, make sure that you and your family are ready to prevent, protect against, mitigate, respond to, and recover from any disaster. You can learn more about National Preparedness Month and how to plan ahead for a disaster here.

Next the county received the Barrett Lawrimore Memorial Regional Cooperation Award, which was awarded to Dorchester County alongside Aiken, Barnwell, Beaufort, and Hampton Counties. This massive fire took two days to extinguish, fully displaying the coordination and teamwork between our counties to come together in the event of a disaster.
The final recognition came when Dorchester County received an honorable mention for the J. Mitchell Graham Memorial Award. This honorable mention was bestowed thanks to Dorchester County Emergency Management's innovative and creative education and preparedness campaign through strategies like the Tradesmen Brewing Co. Dorchester County Fire Rescue Receives Smoke Alarms with Help from State Farm & Home Depot
Local business owner Michael Snyder with State Farm Insurance company made a charitable contribution of $500.00 to Dorchester Count Fire Rescue via State Farm Company's Foundation Matching Gift Program.
