September 11 Community Remembrance Ceremony
Over 100 residents attended the Community Remembrance Ceremony which was held on September 11, 2022, at Davis-Bailey Park. The program included remarks from Mrs. Harriet Holman, Dorchester County Council District 1, and Chief Deputy Sam Richardson, Dorchester County Sheriff's Office. The Dorchester County Sheriff's Office Honor Guard, Fire Rescue, EMS, and Girl Scout Troop 590 also participated in the ceremony. Reverend Robert Reeves, Indian Field United Methodist Church, led the Invocation and Benediction, and Mr. Paul Cox, Trumpeter with Summerville Orchestra & Charleston Concert Band, honored the Wreath Setting Ceremony with a performance of Taps.

Fire Prevention Week: “Fire won’t wait. Plan your escape.”
The Dorchester County Fire Rescue is teaming up with the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Fire Prevention Week. This year's campaign, "Fire won't wait. Plan your escape," works to educate everyone about simple but important actions they can take to keep themselves and those around them safe from home fires.
Dorchester County Fire Rescue is hosting a series of events in support of this year’s Fire Prevention Week including our annual DCFR First Responder Awareness Festival on October 15, 2022, from 10am to 3pm at the Harleyville Town Park.

Rural Broadband Update with PRTC
Dorchester County and County Council Members are hosting a Community Outreach Series to inform, educate, and engage residents. The next program will be presented by Palmetto Rural Telephone Cooperative and will take place on Tuesday, October 11, 2022 at 6pm at the Shady Grove Family Life Center (9140 Charleston Highway St. George, S.C. 29477).
Veterans Benefits and Disability Claims Workshop
You're invited to our monthly VA Benefits and Disability Claims Workshop on October 25, 2022, from 2pm - 4pm. The program will take place at the Dorchester County Council Chambers at 201 Johnston Street in St. George.
The agenda includes a disability benefits overview, dependency and indemnity, and compensation and pension eligibility. You'll also be able to meet Dorchester County Veterans Office staff and ask questions.
