Transportation Sales Tax Referendum 2022
With voter approval, counties can add a 1% sales tax to fund transportation improvements.
Dorchester County voters will have an opportunity to continue the existing one percent sales and use tax on Election Day on November 8, 2022.
This is not a tax increase. The current one percent transportation sales and use tax program has had a significant impact on Dorchester County roads since 2005. Completed projects include the following: constructing new roadways, widening existing major thoroughfares, paving over 150 miles of dirt roads, improving intersections, resurfacing streets, and repairing sidewalks. Click to view a complete list of "Your One-Cent Sales Tax at Work" projects.
Sales tax, including the one percent sales and use tax, is paid by all - not just residents, but tourists and visitors. Everyone who uses our roads, facilities, and services while in Dorchester County should help to pay their share. The one percent sales and use tax generates one cent for each dollar spent, and is therefore sometimes referred to as the "one cent sales and use tax."
This tax has helped our Dorchester community in the past and can continue to do so in the future.
New Search and Rescue Drone for Emergency Management
Just a couple of weeks ago, the Emergency Management Department (EMD) acquired a brand new DJI Mavic 2 Enterprise Advanced Unmanned Aerial System (UAS), commonly known as a "drone".
This particular model is a step forward as its thermal imaging capabilities are a significant improvement compared to the existing drones.
|
EMD uses their drones to support public safety partners, both within Dorchester County and in the greater Tri-County area and have responded to search and rescues and large commercial structure fires.
The sheriff’s office, the fire department, and public works each have at least one drone, and they are working together to cross-train so that they are prepared to support each other when needed.
