Keep Your Identity Safe

Protect yourself from identity theft. Come to the free document shredding event this Saturday provided by the Renton Police Department and Iron Mountain. You can bring up to five boxes (12 to 15 inches deep and 10 inches high) containing documents to be destroyed in a truck mounted shredder. Documents should be free of paper clips and other metals (staples are OK). Plastic items such as credit cards, notebooks and CD's are NOT acceptable. Documents are limited to household papers and will be shredded on site. Donations of canned goods will be accepted for the Renton Food Bank. Event details are available here.

Handling Hazardous Waste

Do you know what hazardous products are in your home? You can find out by reviewing the hazardous products list or checking the product lable. "DANGER" or "POISON" means the product is very harmful and "CAUTION" or "WARNING" means it is somewhat harmful. It is best to get rid of unwanted hazardous products for the safety of you and your family. But hazardous waste cannot be disposed of in the garbage because they require special care to ensure they won't endanger people, wildlife and the environment. In King County, you can properly dispose of most hazardous waste at four fixed collection sites listed here or at the traveling Wastemobile, which will be in Renton in October!
RENTON WASTEMOBILE Friday, Oct. 14 to Sunday, Oct. 16, 10:00am - 5:00pm Fred Meyer 365 Renton Center Way
The Renton Wastemobile will accept household hazardous waste from King County residents including batteries, cleaning products, fluorescent lights, pesticides, paint (no latex), propane tanks, mercury-containing thermostats, motor oil and auto fluids, and more.
