Rialto Street to be Closed to Vehicles During Lowrie Street Bridge Repairs

The bridge superstructure (concrete beams and concrete deck) was replaced in 2020-2021, but the bridge has maintained a “poor” rating due to the condition of the abutments, which support each end of the bridge.  

The planned work will require a long-term vehicular closure of Rialto Street between Ley Street and Route 28 while the contractor completes the following work: 

• Replacing aged and deteriorated stones with local quarry sandstone 

• Abutment cleaning 

• Abutment repointing 

Repairs, and the closure, are expected to take 1-2 months. Pedestrian access will be maintained throughout construction, but vehicular traffic will be detoured via Route 28, Chestnut Street and Troy Hill Road. The Lowrie Street Bridge is expected to remain open throughout construction.
