Revitalizing Marshall-Shadeland: Affordable Homes Underway on Woodland Avenue
On July 16, the Pittsburgh Housing Development Corporation (PHDC), in partnership with the Marshall-Shadeland Civic Group (MSCG), celebrated the start of construction on four long-vacant homes at 1213, 1214, 1222, and 1246 Woodland Avenue. This marks the final phase of the Woodland Avenue Revitalization Project, which has already created affordable homeownership opportunities for eight North Side families.
Once completed in spring 2026, the homes will be sold to first-time buyers earning at or below 80% of the Area Median Income. The project aims to restore quality, attainable housing and eliminate blight in the neighborhood.
With over $1.7 million in support from the City of Pittsburgh, URA, Buhl Foundation, WesBanco, and American Rescue Plan funds, this initiative is a model of how community partnerships can drive meaningful neighborhood change.

Downtown Grocery Store Coming Soon to Liberty Avenue
Downtown Pittsburgh is finally getting a much-anticipated grocery store. Thanks to the efforts of the Downtown Neighbors Alliance (DNA) and key community partners, Well Well Market will soon open its doors at 817 Liberty Avenue, bringing fresh produce, affordable groceries, and a full range of essentials to the heart of the Golden Triangle.
Well Well Market is led by Eric Iacone, a Carnegie Mellon graduate and former member of Riverwards Produce in Philadelphia, and co-founder Ivy Hu, who brings her own deep roots in grocery retail. Together, they’re creating a store tailored to the needs of downtown residents—with over 40% organic-certified products, a bulk foods section, a floral department, and a juice bar café.
This project is a major milestone in the Liberty Avenue Project, a broader effort to revitalize Downtown’s retail landscape. Backed by DNA, Rugby Realty, Hullett Properties, and the Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership’s Rent Abatement Program, this initiative reflects a growing commitment to making Downtown a livable, vibrant neighborhood for all.
Council President Lavelle supports bringing neighborhood-serving businesses like Well Well Market to Downtown and looks forward to further investments that meet residents’ everyday needs.
Well Well Market is in its early setup phase and is expected to open soon. For more information or to explore business opportunities downtown, contact jvalentine@pittsburghdna.org.
