MAYOR ED GAINEY RELEASES 2025 VISION ZERO MEMORANDUM

In March 2024, under the leadership of Mayor Gainey and Councilmember Warwick, Pittsburgh formally endorsed Vision Zero as a citywide strategy to improve traffic safety and eliminate traffic fatalities and severe injury crashes. As part of this commitment, the City established an Intergovernmental Working Group to coordinate efforts across agencies and address the root causes of traffic fatalities. 

Since launching in April 2024, the Vision Zero Intergovernmental Working Group has met quarterly, bringing together leadership from:

• The Mayor’s Office 

• City Council 

• The Department of Mobility and Infrastructure  

• The Department of Public Works  

• The Law Department 

• The Office of Management and Budget  

• The Department of City Planning  

• The Department of Public Safety and Pittsburgh Bureau of Police  

• The Department of Innovation and Performance  

• Allegheny County 

• Pittsburgh Parking Authority 

• Southwestern Pennsylvania Commission  

• Pennsylvania Department of Transportation  

• Pittsburgh Regional Transit
